These iPhones will not be able to update to iOS 17

The unveiling of iOS 17 at WWDC23 has triggered a significant influx of news, which has had a predominantly negative impact on iPhone models that won’t receive updates. Consequently, numerous mobile phones have now become completely outdated and are unable to receive the necessary updates. Thankfully, this issue has been resolved.

Once again, come September, we will discover that certain Apple phones won’t be eligible for updates. While the loss of all the new features introduced in iOS 17 is indeed unfortunate, it is not the primary concern for most users. Their greatest apprehension lies in the future of their devices and, more importantly, the substantial depreciation in their phone’s value.

What iPhone models are not going to be updated?

With the advent of iOS 17, several iPhone models have been left behind, leaving many users concerned about the future of their mobile experience without access to the latest operating system updates. The three models that will not receive the iOS 17 update, rendering them “obsolete” in terms of software upgrades, are as follows:

– iPhone 8
– iPhone 8 Plus
– iPhone X

These phones have been on the market for six to seven years and adhere to Apple’s update policy. Consequently, if you own any of these models, it’s important to note that you will receive sporadic updates primarily focused on device security and addressing specific issues. However, the level of support will gradually diminish, making it advisable to consider upgrading to a new mobile device.

Those not updated lose their value

As mentioned earlier, the primary concern lies in the significant depreciation of value that these three models will experience with the limited support from Apple. Typically, phones that cease to receive updates after a year or two are relatively new in production. However, in the case of these older models, which are already 6 to 7 years old, the consequences are more severe when it comes to their value, especially considering they cannot be updated to the latest iOS version.

When a new iPhone model is launched, it typically loses around 30% of its initial value. Now, when we factor in the age of these iPhones and the lack of update compatibility, their price plummets even further in the second-hand market.

Therefore, if you own an iPhone 8 or an iPhone X and have no intention of keeping them, it is highly advisable to sell them as soon as possible, particularly before the release of the new iPhone models expected at the end of summer. Once the anticipated iPhone 15 is unveiled, the value of these two models will further decrease, rendering their prices ridiculously low.
