To improve Netflix recommendations, hide titles that do not reflect your taste, update your ratings, or create a separate profile for a fresh start. Hiding all viewing activity removes that history from future recommendations, but Netflix uses other signals too. It does not promise a complete reset of everything the service knows about your preferences.
Updated : Rechecked Netflix’s viewing-history and rating controls, and clarified that hiding history is not a one-click reset of every recommendation signal.

Choose the change that fits the problem
| Problem | Best starting point | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| One film or series has distorted your suggestions | Hide that title in Viewing activity | It stops being used for recommendations unless you watch it again |
| Your tastes have changed | Review ratings and rate things you enjoy now | New feedback helps shape future suggestions |
| Several people use one profile | Give each person a separate profile | Future viewing histories stay separate |
| You want a cleaner starting point | Create a new profile if your account has room | You leave the old profile’s history and preferences behind |
How to hide Netflix viewing history
- Sign in to Netflix in a web browser and open Account.
- Choose Profiles, then select the profile you want to change.
- Open Viewing activity.
- Select the hide icon beside an unwanted title. For a series, use the option to hide the series if offered.
- To hide everything listed, scroll to Hide all and confirm only if you want to remove the whole viewing history from this view.
Netflix says hidden titles are no longer treated as watched, are removed from Continue Watching, and stop being used for recommendations unless watched again. Removal across devices can take up to 24 hours. Its official hiding-history guide also says this control is not available when Viewing activity is opened from a Kids profile.
The 24-hour note is about hiding titles across devices. It is not a guarantee that your entire homepage will match your new tastes by that time.
Use ratings as well as history
Open a title’s rating controls and give it feedback that matches what you want to watch. A thumbs-up, thumbs-down, or double thumbs-up gives different feedback. Change a rating if you made it by mistake or your opinion has changed.
Netflix explains these controls in its ratings guide. Hiding a title and changing a rating are separate tasks; do not assume one automatically clears the other.
When a new profile is the simpler option
If a profile mixes several people’s habits, a new profile can be easier than checking years of activity. Create it through Manage Profiles if your account allows another profile, then use it consistently for your own viewing.
Keep the original profile until you are sure you no longer need its list, history, and settings. Deleting it is a bigger step than hiding a few titles. Netflix’s profile guide explains the available controls and limits.
Why some suggestions still look familiar
Recommendations also use information such as the titles available to you, your interactions, and patterns across viewers. Netflix describes the mix in its recommendations guide. Similar suggestions do not necessarily mean your change failed.
If you simply want to browse beyond the homepage, try Netflix category codes. Those open collections; they do not change your profile’s recommendation settings or unlock unavailable films.
