The SIM card is a key element in our mobile. Without it we could not make a call or connect to the Internet. As the new eSIMs settle, we will have to keep inserting this piece of plastic over and over again. On many occasions, either because the mobile is new or because we have not needed to open the tray for a long time, it can be tedious to remove the SIM card. Today we wanted to see how it is done on all iPhones.
It is rare for the terminal that today does not use the method of introducing a thin and metallic gadget to make the SIM card tray come out automatically. However, extreme care must be taken not to damage the internal components and never print too much force when trying to pull the tray out. But before continuing, we have to see in detail where the SIM card tray is located depending on the model of your iPhone.
Where does the SIM go on each iPhone
On iPhone X, XS, XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max
As we see, in these terminals it is located just on a central side, under the power button.
On iPhone XR and iPhone 11
In these models it is located in the position that we have seen previously, but a few centimeters below.
On older iPhones
This SIM card location is valid for a large number of past iPhone models, including the iPhone 8 series. It is located just below the power button and not as focused as on more modern models. The method is valid for these iPhone:
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6 Plus
- Iphone 6
- iPhone SE

- Iphone 5c
- iPhone 5
- Iphone 4s
- iPhone 4 (GSM model)
It is difficult for any of our readers to have one of the first iPhone in their hands. However, and as you never know, we also left the method of removing the SIM card in the first Apple models. This method is valid for:
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 3G
- Original iPhone
How to remove the SIM card
Once we have identified the location of the card that contains the SIM card, we will have to proceed to remove it. To open the SIM tray, we will have to insert the end of a clip or a SIM card eject tool , into the hole next to the tray. Then we will have to put pressure on the iPhone, but without forcing. Once the SIM card has been removed from the tray, we must look at the notch at the end of the new SIM card.
Now we can put the new SIM card in the tray, taking into account that it will only fit in a specific position due to the notch mentioned above. Finally, we insert the tray fully into the device keeping the same orientation as when removing it. Also, the tray only fits in one way, so we will have to try not to force its entry incorrectly. In case you have problems to remove the SIM tray, or that our mobile does not recognize it , it is recommended to take the device to an Apple Store for help or an Authorized Technical Service.
