However, it is clear that the different mobile brands took a step ahead of Google’s operating system in terms of aesthetics. Basically, because manufacturers began to bet on having their own layers of software to improve different aspects and be able to make a difference compared to the rest.
This is the case of OPPO, which with the arrival of ColorOS 11, the latest version for its customization layer, has seen how the possibilities have been increased in terms of settings to improve the appearance of its terminals. Best of all, this edge lighting feature can be on any brand device, so… what do you need?
This extra attraction has been added to the phones of the Asian firm that have ColorOS 11 and an OLED panel . This means that if you have a lower version than this update, you will not be able to configure this striking tool with which you will get your mobile to light up when you receive calls or messages. In addition, this functionality is not only quite similar to the classic LEDs that could be found in the first smartphones, but it also reminds us of the famous Edge Screen of Samsung phones.

How to set edge lighting on your phone
This OPPO idea is not something new, but other firms have already been implementing it for some years. In this case, the Asian firm has named this functionality as Edge Lighting. However, it is the same that can be found in other smartphones, although it is clear that the manufacturer has made a series of adjustments in order to make it different from the rest.
For those who do not know, this function is only used by those smartphones that have an integrated OLED screen. With it, some pixels can be used to change color and alert us every time we receive a message or a call. Therefore, it is time to discover how we can activate it and the customization that OPPO offers us of this very useful feature. And it will be ideal for those users in love with the mobile in silence.
Although, first of all, you should check that your mobile has ColorOS 11 , in case you don’t know for sure, go to Settings> Phone information. In this way, you will confirm whether or not you have this version. Then, you will have to follow the following steps to activate the edge lighting:
- We go to the settings of our OPPO.
- We select the Customizations section.
- Then, we will have to click on one of the last options: Edge lighting .
Once inside, we will have different options to be able to customize this tool on our smartphone. As soon as we click on it, a menu will appear in which it will show us what will happen when this function is active. It simply does not demonstrate how the panel will light up from bottom to top each time we receive a call or notification.
In addition, if we click on Notifications when the screen is off or Incoming calls , we will have 3 colors available to choose from: Purple, Blue and Orange. Therefore, there is no switch as such to activate this function, so it will be necessary to choose one of these three colors. In the case of calls, it does offer us some more settings. In it, we can choose to turn it on with: VIP contacts, Favorite contacts, All contacts or All calls.
Why doesn’t it work on your smartphone?
On many occasions, as soon as we configure this tool on our mobile device, the truth is that it does not work. But what could be the problem? To begin with, this feature of the smartphones of the Asian manufacturer does not work if we have activated in the terminal the option that causes the screen to turn on every time we receive a notification. This is why we must disable it if we want to use edge lighting.
To do this, we will have to go into Settings> click on Notifications and status bar> deactivate the switch to Activate screen when receiving notifications on the lock screen. As soon as we disable this option, we will begin to see how the smartphone lights up in the color that we had set when receiving a warning.
The other problem that has affected different users has a tendency to appear after several days of use. Also, it may be due to some recent update. To do this, we will have to turn off all the animations on the smartphone and then return them to x1.0. Once this is done, it will work correctly again when we receive a notice on our smartphone, as it normally does not stop calling when we call.
