As a general rule, iPhones usually update their iOS operating system for 5 years, although the trend is changing and there are already more. This does not mean that after this time you cannot continue using them. You could do it, if it works well, one or two more years, although taking into account that they will not receive updates and that their performance may begin to decline, it is advisable to think about other options.
If you don’t want your device to become obsolete and exposed to unnecessary danger, it’s better to change it when it no longer receives updates, for security reasons and because it won’t receive the advantages and new features of the new versions of iOS and some apps.
Mobiles that will be updated to iOS 16
iOS 16 is the sixteenth version of the iOS operating system and its next major version announced on June 6 of this year at the World Developers Conference that was discussed long before. It is the successor to iOS 15 and the first version since iOS 12 to drop support for older iPhones.
The devices that will receive this new update are those that have been launched since the end of 2017 , more specifically:

To download the new iOS update or any other that is available for your iPhone you will have to go to the Phone Settings to the General section and to Software Update. It’s best to keep your charging cable or wireless charger connected while the update downloads and installs.
Until what update will my mobile receive?
In the early years, updates were 3 years. After the iPhone 3GS they began to be 4 years, and after the 4S the 5 years of updates began to appear. The iPhone 7s have been updated 5 times, from iOS 9 to iOS 15. The iPhone 8, first released in 2017, along with the iPhone 8 Plus, will have the iOS 16 update, as we have already said, although it is likely that the support for these models ends in 2023 , after the launch of iPhone 15.
With Apple‘s newer iPhones, the iPhone 11, iPhone X, or iPhone 13, we’ll see iOS updates that are at least 6 years old , though this could vary depending on what features are included. The iPhone X would receive updates until iOS 18 or iOS 19.
The iPhone 11 will likely get updates to iOS 19, or could even get iOS 20. Likewise, the iPhone 12 released in 2020 is expected to get updates to at least iOS 20, maybe even iOS 21. iPhone 13s, released with iOS 15 , they could receive updates up to iOS 21 or iOS 22. The figures could be higher if iPhone changes its policy again, although this would be a lot ahead of time.
