Details of the New Update for the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro

Although it is already two generations older, and the third should be in the oven (P50), the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro are receiving a new update. The new patch is based on EMUI 10 and is reaching European users, starting with the German P20s. But is it a major update?

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro were launched in April 2018, and are considered two of the best terminals that Huawei has launched in recent years. The P20 Pro can still rival many high-end 2020s in its photographic results and both are powerful enough to handle whatever game or task is thrown at them. However, the issue of updates is another matter.

They remain anchored in EMUI 10

Currently, both devices are updated to EMUI 10 with Android 10 , but they have not made the jump to EMUI 10.1 and their integration in EMUI 11 is not expected at all. This means that all the updates that arrive for these devices may have more or more less important, with its security patches or specific improvements. Now, the P20 and P20 Pro are receiving a new version of software that is reaching the owners of both terminals in Europe.

Improvements in both terminals

The update has a weight of 537 megabytes and according to the official change log, “The general stability of the system is improved in certain scenarios” Huawei has not gone into details, but it is very possible that some problems that were in the air will be corrected, such as faster battery drain and other performance problems that were reported after the arrival of EMUI 10. At the moment we do not know if this update will integrate any novelty at a functional level, but if so, it should be reflected in the registry of changes.

And what about EMUI 10.1?

Except for surprise, the EMUI 10.1 update seems not to be on Huawei’s priority to-do list right now. It is possible that the delicate moment the company is going through has resulted in a limitation of resources, including software development. This could be the cause that some models with two years old, but equally capable of continuing to update to new versions, do not see EMUI 10.1 and much less EMUI 11. However, it would not be the first time that we see some surprise in this regard , so many users remain hopeful.
