Burned-out Screen Problems on an AMOLED Panel, Can You Fix It?

There are different types of screens: LCD, LED, OLED … In the case of AMOLED , it is one of the best options that high-end mobiles have incorporated in recent years. Its refresh rate, added to a great purity of colors and exceptional brightness make it a benchmark in terms of screen quality. However, its manufacture is very expensive, so if we want a mobile with this technology we will have to scratch our pockets. But we can find a problem that affects many devices today: the screen burned .

In addition to the above, AMOLED panels are usually quite sensitive to a problem that CRT televisions, also called tube televisions, were standard. The screen burned or burn-in in English, affects all mobiles that have an AMOLED screen. It is a problem that can be avoided in many ways.

What is the burned area effect

pantalla quemada

Fear not, because the name of the term can lead to misunderstandings that have nothing to do with the problem in question. This phenomenon occurs when pixels or points of light are subjected to continuous wear, which produces small cracks in certain areas of the screen. They can be shaped in various ways and displayed in different ways, such as lines, pictures, color fading, or other types of patterns. That is, if, for example, we keep the same image for a long time on our screen, a burn can occur in a certain area that will never disappear.

This is because the diodes that emit the light are organic. With the passage of time and the continued use of our device, they degrade and these “ghosts” end up appearing in those areas that have been subjected to greater wear and tear. This is not new, since other elements such as the battery also suffer progressive degradation. Therefore, it is important to prevent this phenomenon because, as we have already said, they do not disappear.

How to know if it is affecting my mobile

We can check if our mobile has a burned screen in a very simple way. We must reproduce a fixed color image on our device in full screen for a few seconds. It is best to use bright colors such as red, yellow or light blue to better notice the contrast. If after a few seconds you see darker areas , those same areas will be suffering from the problem.

Ways to avoid it

Don’t keep the same image on the screen

Many widgets, especially clocks or some applications, tend to stay in one place on the screen for a long time. This causes the pixels in that area to wear out more than the rest and causes these cracks to appear. So that they do not appear, a good advice is to change them frequently to make a better distribution of light, although eliminating it is always the best solution.

Suppress the bottom button bar by gestures

This is undoubtedly one of the areas that maintains the same color for the longest time, since the navigation buttons are always fixed. This will make it easier for screen burn areas to appear. The solution is to remove this bar and use the Android gestures , which after all serve the same purpose. These are activated in Settings, Screen and within this we look for the Swipe gestures section. You can also choose to use the full screen option.

Avoid blue and white colors for a long time

Avoid overexposure of these two colors, as they are easier to create burned areas. It is a complicated task, since white is present almost at all times, except when we have the screen turned off, of course. In any case, it is convenient to use wallpapers of different colors and change them regularly, which will allow the pixels to wear out evenly. In addition, if this is also applied to the notification bar, another of the elements that remain fixed for longer, better than better. To do this, we must apply a background that is of a similar color to that of this element, and thus we kill two birds with one stone.

Other settings

There are many more ways to avoid burn-in of our screen. For example, we must keep the brightness to a minimum, and if we apply the automatic brightness option, better than better, since it uses purely white light. Setting the Dark Mode is also a good option, since the black pixels do not consume power. The best thing is to activate it when it starts last night, and also our eyes will thank us for it. Another good tip is to set the lock screen and timeout. With this you will also avoid image retention, since the screen will not be permanently on.

How to fix the burned screen of my mobile

The most sincere thing is to say that it cannot be fixed, unless you change the mobile screen, of course. However, there are times when you can solve it if the burned areas are not very large. Restarting or shutting down the device for a few minutes will save you many times. But for those who are not so lucky, we can use applications to prevent it from going to more.

AMOLED burn-in fixer

This application is one of the most downloaded to fix screen burn problem. It is completely free and you can download it in its APK version. These are the steps to follow:

  1. Once you’ve installed the app, look for the Test Burn-In tab. A completely gray background will appear where you can see all the damaged pixels of your device.
  2. Next, you must click on the Fix Burn-In option.
  3. Click on it and the full screen will appear so that you can select the areas you want to correct.
  4. When you finish, it will ask you to activate the Color Inversion of your phone to check if you have corrected the burned areas.

It is quite easy to use, although it does not always work. If we find a very burned screen, it will solve some areas, but not all. As we have already said above, this problem does not have a totally effective solution.

Activate color inversion

As we have seen in the previous application, there is also the option to activate this tool. With this you can hide a bit the burned areas of your screen. This will affect your entire device, so no area will be left uncovered. To do this, you must follow these steps on your device. They are applicable for the vast majority of Android devices:

  1. Go to the Settings of your mobile.
  2. Look for the Accessibility section.
  3. Once inside, find the Display tab and tap Invert Colors .
  4. Activate the Use color inversion option.
