Both the Mi Band 5 and the Mi Band 4 are on the wrists of thousands of users monitoring their physical activity every day. The latest model has a larger screen, and improved functions like the stress meter or the menstrual cycle control function. However, both allow us to precisely configure the physical activity that we are going to do.

Among the improvements of the Mi Band 5 with respect to the Mi Band 4, new sport modes have been added. This is a function that could well be activated by software in the previous generation, but that should prevail in the Mi Band 5 as one more justification for the novelties of the new model. Let us remember the possibilities that each bracelet has in terms of its sports modes.
Different sport modes
- Xiaomi Mi Band 4 with 6 training modes : treadmill, exercise, outdoor running, cycling, walking, swimming in the pool; count steps, distance and calories burned.
- Xiaomi Mi Band 5 with 11 training modes : outdoor running, sports walking, cycling, running, swimming in a pool, freestyle, indoor cycling, elliptical, jump rope, yoga, and rowing machine.

How workouts are activated
The good news is that these training modes can be activated from the bracelet itself , without having to go to Mi Fit. To do so, we will only have to scroll down from the main screen to see all the menus. Once done we will have to press on training and enter the training mode section.
Now we can choose between the 11 training modes of the Mi Band 5 and the 6 modes that the Mi Band 4 allows to select. When we have started the exercise, we will have to keep it activated until the end , and once done we can keep the central button the bracelet to finish the progress. If we cancel early, the results will not be considered qualifying and will not be recorded for too short.
Automatic detection on the Mi Band 5
In the case of the Mi Band 5, we can make the bracelet automatically detect the training we are going to do. But this function must be activated from More / Settings / Detect activity. Once done, the bracelet will know when we start the activity and we will not have to perform the previous steps. At the end we will be able to see a summary of the results, but we will need to open My Fit to see the progress and more detail of the exercise.
