Without Kirin … What Processors Will Huawei Use in Its Future Phones?

Huawei has to make a decision sooner rather than later not to hamper the development of its new phones. The US ban on the brand has caused different companies to not be able to work with the Chinese manufacturer, something that in addition to preventing it from using Google services is its phones has caused it to stop manufacturing its HiSilicon Kirin processors.

Kirin ... What Processors Will Huawei Use

Until now , Huawei’s processors were manufactured by TSMC but the decisions of the North American Department of Commerce prohibit it from supplying new chips to the brand. As early as May, the CEO of Huawei stated that, “unfortunately, in the second round of US sanctions, our chip suppliers (for the manufacture of the Kirin) only accepted orders until May 15, so production will cease this September 15.”

That is why from next month, in less than a month, the Chinese company must look for a new processor supplier to give life to its future catalog of mobile phones, including the Huawei P50 and Mate 50 (apparently, the Huawei Mate 40 could arrive in time to be presented with a signature chipset).

Qualcomm or MediaTek?

Today it seems that MediaTek has won the game because Qualcomm is still an American company and, as such, is subject to the orders of the Trump government. This means that unless you get the special treatment you are looking for, you cannot collaborate with Huawei at the moment. Something similar happens with Intel, whose experience in the field of mobile telephony is also almost nil.

The use of Samsung processors is ruled out, as the Korean firm is currently the main competition for the Chinese brand and it is logical that the firm does not want to provide huge benefits to its chipset department.

With this difficult outlook, it seems that MediaTek and its great work done with its latest processors may be the perfect option for the brand. And we have the proof in the next smartphones that the brand already has prepared for its market launch.

The example of the Huawei Enjoy 20 Plus

The Huawei Enjoy 20 Pro is now official and we expect at least two more phones to join the family: the Huawei Enjoy 20 and the Huawei Enjoy 20 Plus . The latter would mount a 6.63 ”screen, a 48 MP + 8 MP + 2 MP triple camera configuration (in a circular configuration) and a 4,200 mAh battery with 40W ultra-fast charge.

However, while the model already presented has a Kirin 820 processor, among other specifications, a leak ensures that the company will change its internal platform for a 5G chipset from Mediatek . Given the recent problems that Huawei is having with the manufacture of its processors, it seems that the brand wants to start testing the firm’s CPUs in its first phones.

If successful, MediaTek is likely to eventually become Huawei’s official supplier to power its new phones.
