The regulars of electronic books surely you already know that this is a powerful program that is very helpful when managing our ebook libraries. Much of the secret of its success is based on all the functions that it offers us, and it does not stop growing thanks to its updates. In addition, it is compatible with practically all the formats of these files. It allows us to carry out all kinds of tasks with e-books, from the most basic to the most advanced.

In addition, it is perfectly synchronized with most hardware readers so we can send content directly to them. What’s more, it even converts the format to another more compatible with the device if necessary. If we take into account that the program has its own content reader, and that it allows us to manage thousands of files of this type, it is possible that many users spend several hours using the application.

We tell you all this because the possibility of being able to customize everything we can user interface, will allow us to get more out of Calibre. This is precisely what we want to talk about in these same lines, that is, we are going to review some tricks that allow us to customize the appearance of the program.

Add, remove, or customize interface columns

When we start calibre, the first thing we find is the contents arranged in our personal library of books. It must be said that each of these entries is located on a line with its corresponding columns that show us interesting data about each title. There are a series of columns that are displayed by default but that we can customize. For this, all we have to do is open the Preferences section of the program, which we find at the top of the initial interface .

Among the many categories that we find in this window there is one called Add custom columns, where we click. The columns that Calibre presents to us by default will appear on the screen, belonging to each added title. Therefore, here we will already have the possibility to mark or unmark the ones that we want to see by default, as well as add new personal ones.

Change all Calibre icons at once

In the same way, this is a program that offers us a series of default icons that have characterized its interface for years. But they can be boring or we simply want to change the program’s interface to make it more original. We tell you all this because Calibre allows us to change the entire set of these icons at once and thus give the application interface a more personal touch.

To do this, we open the Preferences section again, but in this case we click on the Appearance button. In the new window we will find a button that says Change the icon theme, in which we click to select the set of these elements that we want to implement. Say that these have to be downloaded, although they are downloaded automatically, and we need to restart the application .

Customize toolbars

We are facing a program full of functions as we mentioned before. Many of these are spread over a wide variety of toolbars. Depending on where we are in Calibre, some bars or others will be displayed. For example, the interface varies if we are reading an electronic book, managing the contents of the library, or modifying the metadata .

With everything and with this we have the possibility to customize the contents of each of these bars that will be displayed. We achieve this by entering the Preferences section again, to click on the Toolbars and menus button . Here we will see a drop-down list with all the available bars and the functions for each of them that we can add or remove.
