Steps to create images by AI with DALL-E 2

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a hot topic between late 2022 and early 2023. The potential of AI is nearly limitless, and one of the exciting possibilities is the integration of GPT-4 in Office. This integration would enable the automation of numerous processes, including creating graphics based on a document, generating summaries of essential points, and automatically responding to emails, among others. Additionally, AI can be utilized for image creation.

OpenAI is the company that created ChatGPT, a widely used Artificial Intelligence platform capable of generating various types of text based on a given description. Another OpenAI platform, DALL-E, allows users to generate diverse images based on a description.

DALL-E

DALL-E was launched after ChatGPT and has since undergone significant improvements. Today, it is considered one of the best image generation platforms, along with Midjourney. Although there are other platforms available online that use APIs from these two platforms to generate images based on text descriptions, they may not deliver the same level of results as using them directly, even for a fee.

Create an account

To start using DALL-E, we need to create an account, just like we would if we wanted to use ChatGPT. If we already have an OpenAI account that we use for ChatGPT, we can simply use the same account and don’t need to create a new one. However, if we’re new to OpenAI and want to use both ChatGPT and DALL-E, we can create an account by visiting the following link.

Create OpenAI account

It is possible to use any email account to sign up for the OpenAI platform, but an alternative option is to use the login credentials from our Google or Microsoft accounts, avoiding the need to create a new account and minimizing the risk of forgetting access details. However, it is not currently possible to sign up using a Facebook account, and it is unlikely that this feature will be added in the future.

How does it work

After clicking on “Try DALL-E”, we will be directed to a page where we can start generating images by inputting a description or a prompt. We can write any description that comes to mind, or even a specific request, such as “a cat playing the piano”. Once we enter the description or prompt, DALL-E will generate a series of images that match or resemble the input.

We can choose the image we like the most, or even generate multiple images and select the one that fits our needs. We can also adjust the resolution of the image, as well as the size and aspect ratio, depending on our preferences. Once we are satisfied with the image, we can download it and use it in any project we have in mind.

Generate DALL-E Images

After entering the description of the image, we can choose the image size and aspect ratio, as well as select the number of images we want to generate. DALL-E will then start generating the image(s) based on the description provided, which can take a few seconds to several minutes depending on the complexity of the description and the number of images requested.

Once the image(s) have been generated, we can download them directly to our device by clicking on the download button below each image. It is important to note that the images generated by DALL-E are not free of copyright and should be used appropriately.

Create images with AI

The image that is shown above was generated using the prompt “3D render of a cute tropical fish in an aquarium on a dark blue background, digital art” in DALL-E. As we can observe, the “digital art” specification has been included after the comma to give a specific type of design to the generated image.

How much does it cost

When DALL-E was initially opened to the public, users could generate images for free up to a certain limit of credits. However, as the popularity of AI image generation platforms increased, this feature was removed to reduce server load. Currently, to use DALL-E, users have to purchase credits.

The pricing for DALL-E is as follows: 115 credits cost $15, 230 credits cost $30, and 345 credits cost $45. Purchasing more credits does not result in additional credits. It costs 15 credits, or less than $2, to generate an image using DALL-E. Each credit costs approximately 13 cents.
