Shake to Minimize, or “Aero Shake”, Will Disappear from Windows 10

Although Windows 10 may seem like a simple operating system, it is actually a system packed with functions and features of all kinds. Many of the functions offered by this operating system are known by practically all users, while there are other functions that, being hidden, have gone much more unnoticed and, therefore, are much less used. One of them is the well-known ” Aero Shake “, one of the inherited functions of Windows 7 that could disappear very soon.

It is true that Windows has many hidden functions and features that are either redundant or not used by anyone and must be removed to prevent the system from being cluttered and full of unused functions. Although, to be honest, “Aero Shake” is not one of them.

Shake to Minimize

This function was introduced for the first time with Windows 7 and what it allows is to minimize all open windows, except one, with a simple mouse gesture. To use it, we just have to click on any open window (on the top bar, for example), and quickly shake the mouse . We will see how all the windows, but the one we have grabbed, are automatically minimized. A very fast and simple way to put order on any desktop and thus focus on a single window.

It is true that this function can cause some problems, especially with the nervous movements of the mouse. However, for that, Microsoft allows us to deactivate it from the operating system Settings.

In addition, it is also possible to disable Aero Shake from the Windows registry and from group policies. But it seems that for Microsoft it is not enough, and, unfortunately, this function is going to disappear from the operating system completely.

Time to clean up Windows 10? Microsoft removes unpopular features and programs

It is true that Windows 10 has many functions and tools that are hardly used, or that are redundant. For this reason, Microsoft is carrying out a complete cleaning of the operating system, eliminating all these components. And the first function that is going to disappear is this. The truth is that the problem with Aero Shake is not that it is not very useful, but rather the opposite. Its problem is that it has hardly been publicized , and many users are unaware of its existence. That Microsoft eliminates this function is going to be a problem for those of us who are used to working with it and use it almost daily. However, it seems that the decision has been made.

Along with this function, Microsoft is going to scythe another popular operating system tool: clipping . This is another of the most popular tools in the operating system, also inherited from the Windows 7 era. Microsoft is not going to make this function disappear as it does with Aero Shake, but will simply make it an optional tool for those who want to use it. And those who don’t, will always be able to turn to the “Crop and Annotation” tool, the modernized UWP version of it.

When will Aero Shake and the other features disappear?

At the moment it is not very clear when all this will disappear. Surely the changes are already proposed for 2021 , so we could see them either in the spring update of the system (something unlikely, since it is almost in the RTM phase already), or in the face of 21H2, the second Windows update Which, it seems, will be a big update full of changes.

For now, if you’re fond of both the Aero Shake and the Snipping Tool, take the opportunity to use them.
