Despite the fact that there are still months to go before its presentation, the months of January are usually quite efficient when it comes to new iPhone rumors. In fact, it was these dates that the design of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 later became known. In this 2021 the leaks are still somewhat calm, although a recent report already points to an expected novelty for the standard iPhone 13, that is, those that are not ‘Pro’.

LiDAR would reach all iPhones
In 2020 Apple surprised by launching an iPad Pro that not only had a double camera, but also added a LiDAR sensor focused on improving augmented reality applications and tools. Later we saw it in the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, with the same advantages to which the improvements in photographs are added. According to a recent report issued by Digitimes, Apple could also incorporate this sensor in the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, if the two standard iPhone this year are finally called that way.
As we always warn about this type of information, it must be borne in mind that it may not end up becoming a reality, since in the end it is not an official source that comments on this fact. However, we give many credits to the medium that has released this information for having sources very close to Apple’s supply chain. On other occasions they have already hit the predictions of other devices, so it would not be strange if in this case they ended up getting it right.

What would this novelty mean?
At the aesthetic level this would already mean a change in the back of the iPhone 13, which essentially maintain the same style released by the iPhone 11 in regards to the double camera and the module in which they are encapsulated. It is not known for sure whether these devices will be accompanied by one more lens as the ‘Pro’ have had in the last two years, but taking into account that they continue to incorporate ‘only’ two lenses, the LiDAR would have to be attached there showing a distribution that until now is unprecedented in Apple smartphones.
For practical purposes, the LiDAR sensor would provide a clear improvement in the photographs and we have already been able to verify this in the recently launched models. Just looking at photographic comparisons of iPhone 12 Pro Max and 11 Pro Max we observe that the level of detail in portrait mode improves considerably and even helps in low light situations. At the end of the day, this sensor is capable of detecting the proximity of elements such as people or objects and, aided by the computational improvement of the processor, makes better results appear.
Last year the iPhone 12 were presented in October due to the numerous delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this 2021, if everything goes as it should, Apple would present its flagship product again in the month of September. Therefore we still have 9 long months in which this information will be confirmed, denied or complemented.
