New Quick Actions for the Google Chrome Address Bar

Despite the stiff competition it faces, Google Chrome is still the most widely used web browser in the world. Millions of users opt for this browser – leaving aside their doubts about their privacy – to navigate their day-to-day safely. For this reason, Google is constantly looking for new ways to make its browser more useful and intuitive for users. And one of the latest developments on which it works, precisely for this purpose, are quick actions.

The quick actions (Chrome Actions) of this browser is an experimental function through which we can execute certain tasks, or access certain parts of the browser (such as the configuration) simply by typing in the address bar. It comes to be, broadly speaking, a universal function finder, although limited.

New Quick Actions for the Google Chrome Address Bar

This feature first landed on Google Chrome with version 87, in November of last year. Originally, it only supported some very specific functions, such as clearing history, deleting cookies, opening incognito mode, managing passwords, updating Chrome or translating a page. However, little by little it is receiving new functions that allow us to use this function in a more intuitive way. And recently, Chrome Actions has received 3 new features.

Chrome Beta users can now use this new browser feature. In addition, since yesterday they can enjoy 3 new actions that they can execute in the browser with a simple command:

  • Chrome safety check // Run password checkup – With this new action we can run a quick security check. So we can analyze our data in search of security breaches, malicious extensions and more.
  • New Google doc // Create Google doc – This quick action will allow us to directly create a new Google document and save it in your cloud. Thanks to this, we will save time and avoid having to enter Google Drive to do the same. An essential action for those who often use this office suite.
  • Control my Google Account // Adjust my Google Account – Allows us to go directly to the Google account management options to, for example, change payment information, subscriptions or personal information.

In this way, by writing naturally in the browser’s own address bar, we can carry out these tasks.

How to enable quick actions in Chrome

The new Chrome Quick Actions will reach all users throughout this year . However, at the moment they do not have a specific date. During its development, only users who use the Beta or Canay versions of the browser will be able to try these quick actions right now.

In addition, they are deactivated by default, so in order to use these new actions we will have to activate them by hand. We can do this from the flags section (chrome: // flags), looking for all the entries that are related to ” # omnibox-pedals ” and marking them as “Enable”.
