One of the most important projects Microsoft is embarking on right now is in its new web browser, Edge. With this software the firm wants to gain a foothold in this growing software sector, so it does not stop launching news for it, as is the case.
In fact, in this case we are going to focus on a new functionality that directly affects the widely used multimedia content. We are increasingly consuming these from these browsers, we refer to music or videos of all kinds. But of course, we also have many websites that automatically launch them unexpectedly, and sometimes annoyingly. This means that if we open many tabs at the same time, sometimes we find that we have to be silencing or closing some of them.
This is due to the automatic playback of videos and music that many present us, something that the Redmond ones are solving in Edge . And it is that soon we will no longer have to find this content on unwanted occasions suddenly. Keep in mind that by default Microsoft Edge allows all websites to automatically play their multimedia content.
Edge will limit autoplay of videos and sounds
But it looks like this is going to change very soon, as the firm works on a feature to limit this default autoplay in Edge. To give us an idea, the feature is currently available in the Canary channel of the browser. Thus, as many of you will know, at this time by default the program allows any website to reproduce its own multimedia content without the user’s consent. Of course, there is an option in the configuration to limit this behavior, but we have to activate it manually.
In this way, by enabling this option that we are commenting on, the browser no longer automatically plays videos and audios from strange websites. But those of Redmond are working on a new functionality that by default will limit what we find with this unwanted or requested content. This means that we will no longer have to activate the commented option when we want to deactivate those annoying audios or videos , since the browser will do it by itself.
As we said, we can already test this function in the Canary versions of Edge, so let’s see how we can activate it.
How to test the new media limiting feature
To do this, the first thing we have to do is activate it on the Edge tests page. The reason for this is that it is still experimental and the company wants to collect the opinions and experiences of those before the function is finally launched. Thus, if we want to test the function, first we must enter the program’s test page from the address edge: // flags that we type in the navigation bar.
Once in it, in the search box that appears, we will no longer have to locate the entry called Autoplay Limit Default Setting . This is the one that refers to the limit of automatic reproduction of multimedia contents . In it, when it appears, we click on the drop-down menu and select Enabled.
Therefore, from that moment on, this will be the default option as regards the automatic reproduction of content of this type. If we ever want to allow websites to reproduce all of this automatically, we just have to deactivate this very entry. With this we achieve that the websites that we open here now are less annoying by default in many cases.
