LibreOffice 7.2: New Universal Command Finder

LibreOffice is the best alternative to Microsoft Office that we can find. This office suite, directed by The Document Foundation , stands out for being a totally free and open source suite, an open suite for anyone who does not want to go through Microsoft’s ring. This suite has a very active development in which, on the one hand, all kinds of problems and faults are detected and corrected, and on the other hand, new functions are sought that may be useful to users. Thus, continuing its constant evolution, those responsible have let us see what will be one of the most interesting novelties of the next version 7.2.

The latest stable version of this office suite is 7.1.3. This is the third revision of version 7.1 (released in February of this year) that came with security fixes and bugs that could spoil the user experience. And, while the developers continue to maintain this version, in the background they continue to work on what will be the next version of the suite, 7.2. This version, which is currently in the development phase, will bring with it a novelty, proposed in 2015, to improve the way of working with the suite’s programs.

LibreOffice 7.2

How is the LibreOffice 7.2 command finder

This new universal search engine has been designed to allow us to find any option, menu item or any item that can be searched within the programs. To launch it, we just have to go to the menu “Help”> “Search Commands” (or “Search Commands”, since at the moment it has not been translated), or use the keyboard shortcut Control + F1 to launch a search bar like the following.

Buscar comandos LibreOffice 7.2

In it we can write what we want, that the program will automatically show us, in real time, all the coincidences. If we place the mouse over any of the elements we will be able to see a brief description of them, and when we click on the element that we want to open we will go directly to its function.

In this way, thanks to this new function, we will be able to find the options we want more quickly, without having to search through the menus of each of the programs. And this, in the long run, ends up saving a lot of time.

At the moment we do not know if this functionality is already complete or if there are still some ideas and functions to be implemented. Be that as it may, when it is finished we will be able to find this universal search bar in all the programs of the free office suite : Writer, Impress, Calc, Math and Base.

Try the new feature before anyone else

At the moment, version 7.2 of the free office suite is under development. Therefore, if we have the stable version installed on our computer, we will not be able to test this novelty yet. To do so, what we must do is download the latest development version of LibreOffice , which we can download for free from this link .

The development versions of LibreOffice are very unstable versions, so it is not recommended to use them on a daily basis. They can have errors and problems, both known and unknown, that can harm our work. Therefore, it is recommended to use these versions for testing purposes only. Once the new features have been tested, it is better to return to the stable version of the suite to be able to use its programs without problems.
