The LG Smart TVs of 2022: characteristics, ranges and models

As every year, many products are presented at CES, but it is the televisions that end up with the greatest impact. LG , how could it be otherwise, has already shown at the fair the products with which it will face Samsung throughout 2022. Its main lines of televisions will be renewed, as well as its operating system, webOS, is going to undergo a series of very interesting changes aimed at maximizing the user experience.

Premium segment: level up with OLED evo

The LG Smart TVs of 2022

If LG OLED panels were already honored for having almost no competitor, this new batch called “evo” comes to consolidate its position mainly improving brightness . Some of the new televisions are going to see their brightness increased to 1,000 nits . This is possible thanks to a new technology called Brightness Booster and the LG Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor, which is provided with a new dissipation system so that it can execute all kinds of algorithms without overheating.

The new OLED evo line is made up of the C2, G2 and Z2 televisions, the latter being the only one with 8K resolution of all the novelties. All three will carry the new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor, with new and improved dynamic tonal mapping and AI that has improved over the previous year. The sound will also be improved on these new televisions, with a virtual 7.1.2 surround sound system.

The G2 series introduces a new 83-inch and a 97- inch model, which complement the 55, 65 and 77-inch versions that were already present in that line.

On the other hand, the C2 series will now allow you to choose a large selection of sizes . They will be sold in a total of six versions of 48, 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches. It is the ideal line for those looking for an OLED panel for gaming , since, in addition to the refresh rate, the use of VRR or the quality of the panel itself, it is the line that offers more size options, allowing us not to rule out the buy for something as typical as the fact that the television is too big for our living room.

Lastly, the A2 and B2 ranges will continue to use a previous generation OLED panel, but now they support HDMI 2.1 with 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. We imagine that the price will be somewhat reduced accordingly.

New models

The high-end of the house are therefore, until new presentations, with these models:

Mid-range: powered by QNED MiniLED

LG has also not wanted to neglect its LCD panels . Last year, Koreans also bet on the MiniLED with their range of QNED televisions. And this year, the line is reinforced by targeting even the 8K resolution, present in the new QNED99 , a huge 86-inch TV and the QNED95 , which is also 8K, but is left with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and that therefore, it will be somewhat cheaper.

On the other hand, the QNED Mini LED range closes with two more new models, the QNED90 and the QNED85 . These two devices have not yet confirmed their launch date, but they will arrive with 4K resolution and 120 Hz panels with 100% color space accuracy thanks to the new LG Precision Dimming Technology system . As a novelty, both teams will support the HDMI 2.1 standard, Dolby Atmos sound and an intelligent HDR enhancement through Dolby IQ . Everything will be managed by Alpha 7 Gen 4 processors.

The Koreans promise that this new batch of QNED Mini LED panels are richer in terms of color reproduction, while increasing the depth of blacks . This section is very important for the brand, since the mid-range has not been left behind if we compare these QNED with the new proposals that the competition has also brought as a novelty to this CES of 2022. These panels also improve in terms of angles of vision is concerned, further maximizing the user experience and demonstrating that MiniLED technology has come to stay .

WebOS system: jump to version 22

webOS 22.

In 2021, LG published its new version of webOS, 6.0, which offered substantial changes compared to its classic interface. This 2022, LG has surprised us again, because its version for this year will not be 7.0, but 22 .

The reasons for this jump are quite sensible. LG does not allow its TV systems to be updated from one year to the next, which they have been doing forever and we don’t like it as consumers. But with this marketing maneuver, they make clear their intention that the webOS operating system is linked to the television . Still, we’d love for LG to do more in this field, allowing users to update their TVs for a longer period of time. After all, most users when they buy a television, they do it with the intention that it will last, and the obstacles in the field of the software muddy the experience a bit.

In any case, the new version allows you to create personal profiles , in true Google TV style. With this change, each member of the house will be able to have their own personalized interface , with artificial intelligence and recommendations gaining much more prominence.

Each user can log into their profile with the TV remote itself or using an app for smartphones, called NFC Magic Tap , which also serves to screen mirror the content of the mobile to the TV.

Additional services in webOS 22

Depending on your location, you will be able to access a new series of services offered by LG on its televisions, which are the following:

  • LG Fitness : aims to get us in shape by following different training programs directly from the home television.
  • LIVENow : is a streaming service so that we can view different live events such as sports, music events and other shows.
  • 1M HomeDance : his mission will be to make us dance to the rhythm of K-Pop.
  • Independent : this is a new video calling service that will help members of our family.

As you can see, many of these functions have their inspiration in the pandemic, something that is happening in most of the large manufacturers that we know.
