OnePlus continues to be one of the manufacturers that updates its mobiles the fastest today. In the last hours, the firm released the stable update of OxygenOS 11.0.1. 1 for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro but, unfortunately, there is a serious problem with this software for which the brand has had to stop its launch.
The failure is being found by those users who update from open beta 3, who also received the update this weekend and immediately realized that it is “wiping” their devices. In other words, by installing this new version of OxygenOS, you are causing a complete wipe of data from your phones . After the update is installed, users are prompted to restart the phone, and when they do, the data on the phone is completely gone.
Sadly, several users report that their phones were set to update automatically and they had no choice but to install the faulty software. One user even tried switching to OxygenOS 10 and upgrading back to OxygenOS 11 open beta 3 without fixing the problem. Some others advise that even with automatic updates turned off, the phone automatically updated, requested a reboot, and then erased all data again.
OnePlus recommends not updating
OnePlus has been quick to acknowledge the problem via the company’s forum on the same Saturday. There, a person in charge of the brand alerted customers of the update problems in OnePlus mobiles, claiming that the firm’s software team is already investigating the matter. If you receive an OTA update, please double confirm if it is an open beta update. If not, please don’t install it.
What should you do?
Meanwhile, OnePlus has proposed a valid solution for those who have already installed the update but have not rebooted their phone. To avoid data loss, it is recommended to follow these steps:
- Download and install this APK file on your mobile
- Install it only after installing the update, but before restarting the phone
- Once the APK is installed, run the application and select the “Keep data” option.
Now even though the phone has been updated, it should be possible to restart the phone without losing the content hosted on it. Even so, OnePlus remembers that users must make a backup copy of the mobile data before proceeding to restart, even if the application has been installed.
