Hidden Feature Discovered in iOS 14 for Payments with QR Code

Although not officially released yet, Apple‘s iOS 14 continues to surprise. In the series of additions announced by the Cupertino firm at WWDC 2020, a hidden feature has now been discovered: a QR code payment mechanism.

Apple made available to developers on Wednesday July 8 the second version of the beta its mobile operating system and, according to the portal 9to5Mac , there is a hidden function in the Wallet application to allow users to make payments with QR codes through Apple. Pay.

While the feature is not officially operational, an image shows how it will work: Users will need to point the iPhone‘s camera at a traditional QR or barcode, allowing them to pay bills with a card registered with Apple Pay.

iOS 14 for Payments with QR Code

“The references indicate that Apple would be working on a new method to allow users to make payments with Apple Pay, scanning a QR code or a traditional barcode with the iPhone’s camera,” the site revealed.

Another way of operating would imply that users have to generate a QR code with the Wallet application and hold the screen of the smartphone in front of a scanner that will register the code. According to the post, there may also be some interaction with other services as a public use API was found.

Apple did not allude to this feature on June 22 during the 2020 Developer Conference, so there is no certainty when it will be available to users. Anyway, the code to allow this type of contactless payments was not available in the first beta.
