When the river sounds, water carries . The Sims 4 just became a free-to-play game, so everything indicated that the fifth generation of The Sims was in development. We were not wrong. Electronic Arts and Maxis have just introduced Project Rene , the code name for The Sims 5 .
Project Rene, a complete reboot of The Sims saga
Silence has reigned, but it was obvious that Electronic Arts had a new title in its simulation saga on its hands. The development team has shown us a small preview of what this future video game will be, which they anticipate will revolutionize the way of playing The Sims.
There has been talk of revolution, renewal and rebirth of the saga. All this time, Project Rene has been secretly being worked on . Its launch, with total security, will not be next year, because in the video, they insist several times saying that the game is in a very early stage of development.
You can barely see a minute of gameplay in the video (you have it starting at minute 27:45), but you can see that, in the future title, it will be possible to place objects and furniture completely at will . Until now, that was only possible if we used the ‘move_objects on’ trick. In fact, they recognize that this implementation was born thanks to observing the game’s own community .
Mobile experience and a multiplayer that is not very clear
The demo shown at The Sims Summit Stream Event ended with a surprise. We will be able to use a mobile phone or a tablet to improve the gaming experience, or play from wherever we want. However, we should not celebrate this so soon, because it would not be unreasonable if we were facing a game in the cloud.
Finally, at the end of the presentation there is a light talk about multiplayer experiences . This implementation has been a request from the community for years, but from the way it has been referred to, it is not at all clear that The Sims 5 will offer us this game system. In the video it is seen that they share furniture and objects with friends. But from there to being able to play online with our characters , there is a great distance.
Will people jump through hoops?
A fifth generation of The Sims sounds good. However, it must be taken into account that the public that usually enjoys these titles already has most of their needs covered with the previous games . In fact, there are players who have even stayed on The Sims 2 .
The Sims needs to revolutionize its gameplay so that die-hard fans are willing to invest another hundred dollars in the franchise. Along these lines, there are not a few players of the simulation title who have openly expressed on Reddit and Twitter that they would not be willing to pay for a whole new set of expansions for The Sims.
For now, the studio originally founded Will Wright has already made a move. EA-Maxis has the foundations of what will be the next generation of The Sims. It will work? Will they be able to reinvent the game? Or will players still prefer to stick with The Sims 4 and its massive collection of community-made mods?
