Qualcomm announced yesterday a new product that can define what we will find in the great mobiles of 2022 , that is, the OnePlus 10, OPPO Find X4 Samsung Galaxy S22 and Xiaomi Mi 12, to name just four examples out of many. It is the new 5G modem, the Snapdragon X65 that promises great improvements in performance and battery management of the devices where it is integrated.
Of course, although it was presented a few hours ago, it will still be a long time before you see these improvements reaching your new phone because this Snapdragon X65 is the successor to the Snapdragon X60 modem, which accompanies the Snapdragon 888 chipset that has just been launched to the market on board the North American Samsung Galaxy S21 and Xiaomi Mi 11.
Phones with faster browsing speed
The main novelty that this 5G modem brings is that it supports download speeds of up to 10 Gbps, compared to 7.5 Gbps with the Snapdragon X60 present in the current top of the Qualcomm range. Anyone who has currently used a 5G network has surely realized that current speeds are usually much, much lower than any of these maximums, but you can imagine that with the use of time we get closer to these figures.
Greater autonomy in our mobiles
But speed is intrinsically related to range. What seems to be more useful is that the new modem will require less resource consumption than its predecessor. We all know that connecting to a 5G network implies higher battery consumption and therefore the new Snapdragon X65 is compatible with the upcoming 3GPP specification , technology designed to improve various aspects of this new standard, including power consumption.
But in addition to this, in the 2022 phones, the Snapdragon X65 modem that accompanies the future Qualcomm processor that we will see at the end of this year, will be paired with a new QTM545 mmWave antenna module, which in turn is designed to improve the energy efficiency by being more efficient when connecting to these networks. To this we add the world’s first AI antenna tuning technology, which according to the firm itself allows to enjoy “significant improvements” in performance when using the data network and energy efficiency.
Other improvements for 2022
An attractive feature of this module is that it has an upgradeable architecture, which means that new functions can be added through software updates, without the need to change equipment. It would allow the equipment where the X65 is present to be updated with the latest 5G technology for a longer time.
