Users have reported for months that there are occasions where Microsoft Store applications cannot be installed. This occurs especially in those applications developed for the Universal Windows Platform (UWP). The errors of the Microsoft Store can be of all type, and be generated by many factors. On this occasion we are going to talk about a very specific failure: error 191.
We can define UWP (Universal Windows Platform) as a commonly used application platform for all devices that incorporate it. An example would be Adobe X, which has been highly demanded by users since installation on computers was not allowed. This happens especially on Windows 10 computers, which are the ones that incorporate this platform.
Next, we will show the possible solutions to avoid this error, called Error 191.
Microsoft Store Error 191: How to Fix It
To avoid this problem, we have some solutions such as updating the Microsoft Store, running the troubleshooter or resetting the store.
Update Microsoft Store
It may be that they have released an update and that you avoid this problem in a simple way. To do this we will only have to follow these steps:
We go to the Microsoft Store and in the upper right corner we will find three ellipses (…) which will display a menu. In this menu we go to «Downloads and updates»
One within that tab we find the applications that we have installed, and we will click on “Get updates” . Although this may not seem to work, doing this apart from updating the applications will also look for updates from the Microsoft Store.
Once finished we will check if the error is resolved or on the contrary it still does not work and we cannot download the applications.
Windows troubleshooter
Another option we have is to use the Windows troubleshooter, which has advanced a lot since previous versions of Windows.
To make use of this, we will go to start menu> Recommended troubleshooting available> Open
Once we have the tab open, we will go to the section “Windows Store Applications”> Run the troubleshooter.
When we do this, a window will open in which the diagnostic process of our store will begin in search of possible errors. If you find them, you will correct them automatically without doing anything.
Reset the Microsoft Store
As a last option, we can restore the Microsoft Store. This store does not offer us any option for this, so we will have to use the command console to solve and reset it.
To do this, press Windows + R> CMD or go to Start> CMD> Open. In both cases it will direct us to the command console, and in it we will have to execute the following command wsreset.exe
When we do, a window like the one shown below will appear, and we will only have to wait until the Microsoft Store starts again.
We hope that some of these steps will help you solve this problem, which can be very annoying for a user who needs or wants a UWP program. If after all this does not work any solution, we should wait for them to launch an update and to solve it with it.
