Download Security Patches for Windows – December 2020

Yesterday, December 8, 2020, was the second Tuesday of the month. And, like every month, Microsoft has released its new security patches, patches with which it corrects all the bugs and vulnerabilities that have been detected during the last period and that endanger the safety of users. It’s time to update, as Microsoft is not releasing any new updates over the Christmas period, so these will be the last updates the operating system receives until next year.

As usual, these new updates are “cumulative”. This means that, in addition to fixing the new vulnerabilities, they also include all the security patches, and all the fixes, that have been released for the operating system. Even the changes to the optional quality patches released late last month.

Security Patches for Windows - December 2020

All supported versions of the operating system have received their batch of security patches. For example, in the case of Windows 10 (2020 versions), 19 vulnerabilities have been fixed, one of which is critical, and the remaining 18 important. Windows 8.1 has also received its patches, fixing 5 major vulnerabilities, and even Windows 7 (versions with extended support) have fixed 9 major security flaws.

Fixed bugs, bugs, and vulnerabilities

In the case of Windows 10, Microsoft has taken advantage of these last updates of the year to fix errors in various elements of the operating system. For example, the classic Edge browser, Microsoft graphics components, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Media, and virtualization systems have been revised. In addition, a serious vulnerability that could allow you to gain SYSTEM permissions when printing a document has also been fixed.

Internet Explorer, for once, has had no vulnerabilities fixed, and the new Edge Chromium , depending on Chromium updates, are not reflected within Microsoft’s patches.

Compared to the previous months, December has been a fairly normal month in terms of these security updates. It does not appear that very serious vulnerabilities have been detected and fixed that could be putting our security at risk. Some excellent patches to say goodbye to a terrible 2020.

Update Windows

The new security patches are now available to all users through Windows Update. Of course, these patches are completely free for all users who have a supported version of Windows. In the case of Windows 7, for example, we will have to pay for these updates.

To download them, we simply have to enter Windows Update from the Settings menu and look for new updates. Depending on our version of Windows 10 we will see a different KB patch. In our case, having one of the 2020 versions, we can see the KB4592438.

KB4592438

We download and install the patch on our PC and, after a restart, we will have our PC up to date, updated and protected from threats that can endanger us.

If we have problems with Windows Update, or we cannot update the PC in this way for other reasons, we can also download and install the updates manually from the following links:

At the moment there seem to be no errors when installing these new security patches. Although it is still too early to say so.
