Delete Mastodon, this app is much more like Twitter

There is no doubt that Twitter is one of the most popular social networks, but since the arrival of Elon Musk, many users are thinking of looking for an alternative. The vast majority opt for Mastodon, but there is an application that already has more than 10 billion downloads and is making the community happy.

The app in question is called Koo and its logo is a chick instead of a bird. One of the many similarities that it shows compared to its competitor, so we are going to investigate inside it to see what advantages it offers and if it is really worth installing it on our phone.

Mastodon

Exponential growth

Elon Musk’s decisions regarding Twitter are leaving much to be desired for the community and there are many social networks that have experienced a growth in users. One of the ones that has increased its influx the most in recent weeks is Koo, whose exponential increase has made it the second most prominent social network of this genre.

Twitter

Although it is true that, for the moment, the flow of users in Europe is practically insignificant, concentrating its activity, above all, in India (Koo’s country of birth), Nigeria and Brazil. However, the social network has more than 50 million active accounts . On the other hand, Mastodon, whose presence in Europe is higher, only reaches about 6 million accounts. A huge difference between the two and even more if we compare them with Twitter.

In any case, it is important to examine the reason for this significant increase in users in such a short time, so we have downloaded the app to appreciate it carefully. Koo is available completely free of charge from both the Google Play Store and the App Store, so you don’t have to worry about the device used for it.

Koo as the best alternative to Twitter

The first thing that appears on the mobile screen when downloading Koo is a window that urges us to register, as usual. You can use a Google account or create an account independently. After that, we will have to select a profile image or simply skip this step until later.

Koo

Koo’s interface is quite simple and bears a strong resemblance to Twitter. Mainly, because the icons that it shows at the bottom follow the same methodology as Elon Musk’s social network. An interesting aspect is that you can link your Twitter account to migrate all your tweets and followers to the new app to save us endless searching.

On the home screen there are three sections in the upper area: in the Feed section the publications of the people we follow appear along with ours; Other users recommended according to our profile will appear in People; Finally, in New you can see recent posts from different accounts. In addition, if you select your profile photo in the upper left area you will have access to modify your data and by touching the flame of fire on the right side you will be able to see popular publications. To publish a Koo, all you have to do is click on Feed and then on “What’s happening?”. Here you can insert an image, GIF, video, survey, link… and you have a limit of 400 characters .

Koo

In the lower bar there are several sections and the vast majority correspond to Twitter. The pad displays hashtags that are trending on Koo , as well as other posts of interest. The magnifying glass is used to search for content on the platform similar to Twitter and the letter is designed to send a direct message to another user to start a conversation. Finally, the bell shows notifications of all kinds that we have received, be it new followers, mentions, comments…
