The surname T seems to have become fashionable among manufacturers, one more alternative to what we already have on the market, although it does not mean the same in all brands. This time we are going to face the OnePlus 8T and the Xiaomi Mi 10T , two smartphones that, although they have the surname T, have differences beyond power that will be very important to make the decision to buy one or the other.
The two have reached the market practically at the same time, with one being an alternative with respect to the other. These two brands have been known since their origins as “best value for money” brands but only one of the two can have that throne. Now we are going to know which of your new mobiles is the worthy holder of that pseudonym.
Design and displays
Looking at the appearance of these two terminals we can think that the differences to the naked eye are not too many, both include the hole in the front in one of the corners and although the camera module is different, Xiaomi opts for a larger lens to stand out. However the materials do change, OnePlus opts for aluminum alloy and glass, while Xiaomi’s is metal and glass, something that is noticeable to make Xiaomi’s 216 g heavier compared to the 188 grams of the OnePlus.
The screens are another important point, being two large mobiles the OnePlus 8T is larger with its 6.67 inches compared to 6.55 inches. The technology used changes and this will make us think that the best screen is from OnePlus as it is AMOLED and has an IPS in front of it. The two share Full HD + resolution and high refresh rate, correctly 144 Hz on Xiaomi and 120 Hz on OnePlus.
Best processor
We cannot ask for much more in terms of power since we find the Snapdragon 865 in both phones . This is manufactured in 7 nanometers and allows us to fly almost literally with the mobile. The options that accompany the OnePlus 8T are 8 + 128 GB and 12 + 256 GB and on the contrary in Xiaomi they are 6 + 128 GB and 8 + 128 GB. In neither case can it be expanded via MicroSD but both are UFS 3.1.
Four cameras or three
We must not be fooled by the number of cameras because in this case we can be surprised. The main lens of the Xiaomi Mi 10T is 64 Mpx and 48 Mpx for OnePlus, both signed by Sony but with a clear winner in Xiaom i. The other lenses are the wide angle where the 16 Mpx of OnePlus improves the 13 Mpx of Xiaomi and finally a 5 Mpx macro lens traced. Finally OnePlus adds a 2 Mpx sensor to improve portrait mode, although Xiaomi’s AI will not miss it.
To record video, however, the optical stabilization of OnePlus wins , it remains above the digital stabilization of Xiaomi, although the latter offers us 8K recording. In approach OnePlus has also done a good job with advanced technologies before which Xiaomi has little to do on video.
Battery and connectivity
At this point we are going to start by looking at the fingerprint reader, where Xiaomi places it on the side and OnePlus integrates it on the screen, continuing with the fact that both have NFC and 5G technology to have the highest speed, Bluetooth 5.1 LE and this makes them be very complete.
Speaking of Xiaomi’s 5,000 mAh are better than OnePlus’s 4,500 mAh. But when trying to talk about fast charging, the king of speed is OnePlus with 65W with which the 33W of Xiaomi are almost half.
OxygenOS vs MIUI
The time has come for software, where we are faced with two very different options and between which it is difficult to decide. OnePlus opts for a fast, light layer with specific touches that give it an added extra, while Xiaomi saturates its layer with endless options that for many users end up being essential.
The operating system changes between them and the work of OnePlus should be valued, since its 8T already has Android 11 together with OxygenOS 11 , something in which Xiaomi is lagging and even brings Android 10 worse with MIUI 12.
Prices and purchase recommendation
After knowing their benefits, we must also know their prices, something that will be important to know the real king in the value for money. On the one hand we have the OnePlus 8T in its 128 GB version for 586 euros, a price that makes the Xiaomi Mi 10T 95 euros cheaper . The 491 euros of the Mi 10T with 6 + 128 GB puts it in a good position.
If we look at all the sections, we will verify that in cameras we can say that Xiaomi’s is better, OnePlus better on the screen, while in all the rest they are very even. The processor is identical, batteries that change but are counteracted in fast charge and capacity. This makes us think that the best value for money is from Xiaomi and it would be the option we will choose as long as MIUI and an IPS screen are not a problem for us.
