The augmented reality functions of the iPad Pro or the new iPhone 12 could be a trifle compared to what could be to come. It is known that Apple is preparing AR glasses (acronym in English for this technology) and that it could be one of its great revolutions. In this way, interesting video concepts have emerged that show the full potential of such a device. Will it finally resemble what we analyze in this post?
Apple will launch VR glasses first
Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are two technologies that are by no means new, however it is unprecedented for Apple. A multitude of patents, reports from sources close to the company and other indications have shown that the company is working on prototypes of glasses and helmets with these technologies. As reported by analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple would launch in 2022 a virtual reality headset with functions similar to what is already known in glasses such as the popular Oculus. Although its price points to be higher than its competitors, Apple is working on adding LiDAR sensors and other elements that make the experience much more intense. What these cases / glasses do is show a completely fictitious environment, although allowing you to interact with them in one way or another.
Regarding AR technology, it must be said that these, on the contrary to VR, show fictitious elements in a real environment. As Kuo himself and other sources also explained, we will have to wait at least until 2023 to see the first glasses of this type from Apple. It is not known with certainty what functions they will have, but surely Apple will have taken note of the failure in this sector of other large companies such as Google.
This concept brings us the Apple Glass AR
This concept was published several months ago, but we find it interesting to rescue it now that new data has become known that, once again, confirms Apple’s development work on glasses of this type. The following video has been created by BD Tech and uploaded on its YouTube channel, thereby showing an authentic spectacle that at the moment seems unreal, but that it cannot be ruled out that it ends up approaching what these glasses finally are.
The video is displayed in such a way that it could perfectly be an Apple video, using a very characteristic style of the company. He presents it after highlighting dates of other revolutionary products in the history of the brand and when it begins a render of these glasses is shown and, what is most impressive, what they would be able to do with what he has called “computer mode”. In this it is possible to interact with different software interfaces such as macOS or CarPlay without the need for any physical support in screen format.
Obviously this is pure conjecture despite the great work and imagination of the creator, but at the end of the day it would not be far from the claims that Apple could be having. Although it must be said that it seems difficult to depend only on what is provided in a body as small as glasses, these could be linked to other equipment and offer a totally new way of interacting with them.
We will have to continue waiting for new data to be known, because not even the design of the glasses as such is defined, but surely they will emerge if Apple finally closes stages of development. And although the company does not give official data until its very presentation, who knows if it will give any clue with augmented reality functions in other equipment.
