It is common for Apple not to offer data related to the RAM of an iPhone. Either in the presentation of the devices or on the company’s website, it is impossible to find this data. However, there are always various information with which you can find out this information regarding the phones on the block. Of the new iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max we already have data, although they have not yet been or launched on the market.
The iPhone 12 Pro increase your RAM
The RAM data of an iPhone derives in most cases from performance tests that are carried out on the terminals. Since no one outside of Apple has an iPhone 12 yet, the data for this component has had to be pulled from the latest beta of Xcode 12.1. We recall that similar data have been obtained from other devices in the past and then it has been confirmed when they have been released on the market. In this way, the RAM of the new Apple smartphones is as follows:
- iPhone 12 mini: 4 GB.
- iPhone 12: 4 GB.
- iPhone 12 Pro: 6 GB.
- iPhone 12 Pro Max: 6 GB.
No surprise in the 12 mini and 12 standard models, since they mount the same amount of RAM that all the iPhone 11 models have had. However, we found a pleasant surprise in the ‘Pro’ models, which reach 6 GB being the iPhone with the highest RAM of all and until then the maximum had been the aforementioned 4 GB, which also mounted the iPhone XS and XS Max.
While it might surprise someone that there are 2020 models with more RAM than others, the truth is that it should not be strange. Apple always adds some more powerful extra functionality in the higher-end models and this year there have been several, this amount of RAM being one of them. Nor can it be said that it has been increased without reason, since it is expected that with this memory it can better manage certain aspects related to the improved computational photography that the new devices have.
Why doesn’t Apple disclose this information?
Virtually all Android manufacturers offer data regarding the RAM of their devices. In fact we know a few terminals that in previous years have managed to mount more RAM than the iPhone 12 Pro has. However, it must be said that the operation of RAM in Android and iOS is different . Although in its day we already gave an explanation of this, we could say in summary that it is a better optimization of resources on the part of Apple devices.
The fact that the Californian company is the one that carries out the development of the processor, the software and a large part of the hardware allows it to work with less RAM even better than other equipment with more capacity in this regard. This is something that also carries over to iPads. If we take into account that at first glance the iPhone would be inferior to the rest in this section, we find a compelling reason for Apple not to say this capacity. In a way, I would be misleading and thinking that an iPhone is going to be managed worse for this reason, when it really is the opposite.
