Updated on November 5, 2026: Google has started rolling out a fix for sudden Pixel Watch battery drain. Its advice is to update the apps on the watch. The company has not named the app responsible.

If your Pixel Watch suddenly needs a charge halfway through the day, start by checking for app updates on the watch itself. Updating the Pixel Watch app on your phone is a separate step.
A Google spokesperson told Android Authority on November 3 that a fix had begun rolling out to affected users. Here is how to check for it and what to try if the battery still drains too quickly.
Try this first: update apps on the watch
- Press the crown to open the app list on your Pixel Watch.
- Open the Play Store on the watch.
- Scroll down and open Manage apps.
- Tap Update all, if it is available.
- Let the updates finish. Then restart the watch once and check how it behaves during your normal use.
Keep the watch connected to the internet while apps download. Google documents this route in its Pixel Watch app-update guide.
For a normal restart, press and hold the crown for about three seconds, then choose Restart. Avoid restarting while an update is still installing. If the time looks wrong after the watch starts again, check the phone connection and time zone; our smartwatch time-setting guide explains those checks.
What Google has confirmed
Google says the battery issue affects a small number of Pixel Watch users. On November 3, it said the fix would roll out over the next couple of days. Reports involve more than one watch generation, but that does not mean every watch is affected.
Google has not identified a particular app, version number or exact cause in that statement. Suggestions blaming Health Services, a watch face or another service remain unconfirmed.
What if “Update all” is missing or greyed out?
This is a real question in the current Pixel Watch discussion. Some owners cannot find the button; others say their battery life has improved, while some still have problems. These are individual experiences, rather than a guaranteed fix for every watch.
- Check the watch’s Play Store. The app store on your phone manages a different set of installed apps.
- Scroll through Manage apps. Look for pending updates or a recently updated list.
- Check the internet connection. Apps cannot download updates without it.
- Check again later. A missing button does not, by itself, tell you whether the battery fix is installed. There may be no updates offered to your watch at that moment.
Do not download an unofficial APK advertised as a Pixel Watch battery fix. Use the watch’s Play Store for the app updates Google recommends.
Quick checks if the battery is still draining
| What you notice | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Battery drains unusually fast while the watch is idle | Finish pending watch-app updates, restart once and note the battery level over a normal period of use. |
| The phone says its Pixel Watch app is up to date | Open the Play Store on the watch too. The phone’s app update is separate. |
| No app updates are offered | Check for a system update separately, then check the watch’s Play Store again later. |
| You need enough charge to finish the day | Use Battery Saver and temporarily turn off Always-on Display. |
| The watch struggles to gain charge | Follow Google’s charging checks rather than assuming this is the same software issue. |
| The watch feels uncomfortably hot | Remove it, disconnect it from its charger if connected, and let it cool before using it again. |
For a separate system-update check, open Settings > System > System updates on the watch. This does not replace checking its apps in the Play Store.
Save power while you check the problem
Google’s battery guidance recommends several settings that can reduce everyday power use:
- Battery Saver: open Settings > Battery and turn it on. It limits background activity, so notifications may arrive later.
- Always-on Display: temporarily turn it off under Settings > Display.
- Bedtime mode: use it overnight to reduce screen activity and interruptions.
- LTE use: on a cellular model, check whether Mobile mode is set to Automatic. Turning cellular off limits calling and other online features when the phone is unavailable.
These settings can help stretch a charge while you troubleshoot. They do not confirm that the software issue has been fixed. Our general smartwatch battery-saving tips cover other everyday settings to consider once updates have finished.
Still no improvement? Keep a simple record
Before changing several more settings, note your watch model, software version, starting battery percentage and percentage a few hours later. Record whether you used LTE, GPS, music streaming or a workout during that time. This makes it easier to compare two similar days and describe the problem to support.
If charge drops sharply during light use after updates and a restart, contact Google Pixel Watch support. If the watch will not charge properly, use Google’s charging troubleshooting guide. Persistent uncomfortable heat also deserves support attention; do not keep wearing or charging a watch that is too hot.
A factory reset should not be your first response to this rollout. It creates extra setup work, and Google’s announced advice for this particular problem is to update watch apps.
FAQs
Why is my Pixel Watch draining even when I am not using it?
A watch can still run apps and services in the background. Google has acknowledged a recent battery-drain issue, but idle drain alone cannot identify its cause. Start with the watch-app update check above.
Which app caused the Pixel Watch battery bug?
Google has not named the responsible app. A recent Health Services update or a comment on a forum is not proof that a particular app caused your problem.
Why is “Update all” missing?
Check Manage apps in the Play Store on the watch and look for pending or recently completed updates. If nothing is offered, check again later. A missing button is not a reliable way to confirm whether you have received the fix.
Do I need a new Wear OS system update?
Google’s announced fix is delivered through watch-app updates. Check system updates separately, but do not rely on the system-update screen to tell you whether your watch apps are current.
Should I factory-reset the watch?
Start with app updates and a normal restart. Consider a reset only after other checks or if support recommends it, so you understand the backup and setup steps first.
What if updating the apps does not help?
Confirm that downloads finished, restart once and compare battery use under similar conditions. If the unusual drain continues, send your model, software version and battery observations to support.
Does sudden drain mean I need a new battery?
No. A sudden change can have a software cause. If the watch keeps losing charge, cannot charge normally or gets uncomfortably hot, ask support to assess it before paying for a repair or replacement.
