Xiaomi surprised everyone with the launch of its Mi TV Q1, a Smart TV with a gigantic 75-inch panel that attracted a lot of attention for its list of specifications and its spectacular price. A priori, it became a television to take into account when playing with the new generation consoles, since we could enjoy 4K resolution with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, however, this is not the case.
HDMI 2.1, but up to 60 Hz

You only have to take a look at the list of official specifications of the Mi TV Q1 to see that the television is a scandal. 4K resolution, three HDMI 2.1 ports, 120 HZ refreshment… and for only 999 euros at launch! Many of us thought that this was the best opportunity to get a huge inch television with the best specifications and the best price, however, it seems that Xiaomi has played with the sentiment of many.

The manufacturer was not sincere in his presentation, and today the web continues to show very diffuse data that leads to misunderstandings. The problem is that the television is not capable of handling 4K content at 120 Hz natively, something that everyone (including us) came to think after seeing the list of product specifications.
Adding frames artificially

The key is in the MEMC technology, which is nothing more than an image processing system that is responsible for adding additional frames to make the image smoother. That is, with a signal of 60 images per second, the television processor is responsible for adding another 60 more frames to smooth the movement and make it appear that we are enjoying a source at 120 images per second.
Nefarious to play
This technology, although it may be successful for some users, is actually an intermediate process that alters the original image, and that inevitably adds latency , so it would be completely inadvisable to use it when playing with a game console. Therefore, unless you want to play at 60 frames per second with MEMC disabled, the Mi TV Q1 is not the most recommended model to connect a PS5 or an Xbox Series X.
Has Xiaomi lied?

Lying, lying, he has not lied. In their Twitter account they talked about this technology as a method to soften the images, however, the use of terms such as 4K, HDMI 2.1 and the 120 Hz that can be seen on the official website of the product easily lead to error. They do not even clearly state that the native resolution is 4K at 60 Hz, so the user will always believe that the television will move the content to native 120 Hz.

Would it be a mistake to buy a Mi TV Q1?

The Xiaomi Mi TV Q1 is still a great product. Its official price of 1,299 euros is still incredible for a 75-inch screen, so those users who are looking for a panel of gigantic dimensions should not look much further. The problem is in those more demanding users, since having a PS5 or a Series X and buying a next-generation Smart TV without a 120 Hz rate would be a mistake.
