We live in times when our privacy is always in question. For this reason, manufacturers are gradually integrating solutions that are aimed at reinforcing this security. Xiaomi has also integrated new solutions so that user privacy remains intact.
When Xiaomi announces a new version of MIUI, security is usually one of the pillars when it comes to security improvements. In this sense, terminals already updated to this version can activate the so-called “Virtual ID”. We are facing one of those functions that are rather hidden, and that many users are unaware of.
What is the Virtual ID?
It is a measure to mask the real identity of the user when browsing the net or using certain applications. In this way, the robots for tracking and learning routines will not be able to keep track of the user. When activated, the Virtual ID further protects the privacy of the user, avoiding for example personalized advertisements, and the possible processing of data with third parties, without their consent.
As its name suggests, we are dealing with a virtual identification, which better protects our personal information from the applications and websites we visit. Therefore, the famous behavior and preferences trace applications are avoided, in favor of privacy. In this way, one of the values that apps most demand to track users is protected, the device ID.
How to activate the function
In order to activate the Virtual ID, we will have to enter the Settings menu. Once inside, we will write “virtual” in the search box. We can also find the option in the path Settings / Privacy / Manage / Special access to apps. Now we select “Manage Virtual ID” to be able to activate the function. Once inside, we will see a summary of the use of the tool and the switch that activates the Virtual ID. When we have used the function, we can see just below the option, the Virtual ID that the system has assigned us.
Reset Virtual ID
Once done, we can navigate with the assurance that our mobile will emit a false clue about the identity of the device. However, we can reset the virtual ID at any time. In this way, we can start from scratch whenever we want. However, the pre-configured parameters in some application may be lost when resetting the virtual ID.
