Windows Patch KB4568831 Throws Blue Screen on Laptops

Microsoft does not finish finding the key to end the problems that, month after month, affect users who install the latest Windows updates. And the fact is that the latest security patches released last week have only added bugs and problems to the latest version of Windows 10. Since its launch, users who have updated their computers have encountered bugs in the start menu and serious performance problems on the PC. But this does not end here. If you have a laptop, it is likely that in the last few days you have seen how crashes and blue screens have increased exponentially.

Critical errors and blue screen on laptops

For a few days, the network has been filling with messages from users with problems with the new Windows updates. Specifically with the KB4568831 patch released last August, but also with the last of September. In addition to the typical failures that we have been seeing for months, laptop users are seeing, for no apparent reason, how their computers show the typical blue screen of death at power up and while they are working with it.

Windows Patch KB4568831 Throws Blue Screen

Blue screens appear when a critical error occurs in the Windows Kernel, or in an essential element that has not been recovered. Usually this screenshot tells us what happened. However, users affected by the latest patch issues are seeing 3 different messages. For one thing, the most common seems to be the ” SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED ” error. But other messages may also appear, such as error code 0xc0000005 and a crash with the ldiagio.sys system process .

Originally, these issues seemed to affect only users of Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks manufactured between 2019 and 2020. However, both Microsoft’s forums and Reddit are full of users with issues. And, above all, users with other laptop brands beyond Lenovo. The only thing they have in common is having installed the latest security patches.

If you are one of those affected, this is how you can solve blue screens and other problems.

How to fix Windows 10 blue screens

Microsoft has admitted that this patch has problems (what a novelty). However, at the moment it has not offered users any solution. If after updating Windows we are seeing blue screens on our laptop, one of the things we can do is uninstall the latest update. After doing so, to prevent it from being automatically reinstalled on the PC, we must pause them from Windows Update. And the best thing is to wait for Microsoft to launch a solution.

If our laptop is a Lenovo, the manufacturer recommends disabling the Enhanced Windows Biometric Security function in the UEFI settings. Other options that seem to work are disabling the Virtualization Technology features in the computer’s BIOS, as the error appears to be related to this feature.

Even if we can’t do any of the three things, we can also restore the computer to a previous point, recommended in August, and still pause the updates.
