Microsoft released Windows 11 early yesterday. The launch was due to take place today , October 5 , but the company decided to press the launch button almost a day before. The new update is reaching users with fewer glitches than expected. We tell you how to update , how to download the ISO , and the most important news.
Windows 11 succeeds Windows 10 , launched just over six years ago. The new version is free if you have Windows 10, and it comes with a complete redesign and a multitude of new features. A major drawback is that there are many limitations at the hardware level, so many computers may not be able to enjoy this new version.
Windows 11 minimum requirements
Windows 11 is one of the most hardware- demanding versions of Windows. The operating system is not officially supported on computers with pre-AMD Ryzen 1000 or 7th generation Intel Core processors (inclusive). Even so, it can be installed, but with limitations. In addition, it is necessary to have TPM 2.0 activated, either on the motherboard because our computer is compatible as standard, or by adding an additional module to the motherboard. You can check here if your PC is compatible and meets the requirements of Windows 11.
The official requirements are:
- Processor: 1 GHz or faster with 2 or more cores in a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip (SoC).
- Memory: 4 GB of RAM.
- Storage: storage device of 64 GB or more.
- System Firmware: UEFI, Supports Secure Boot.
- TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
- Graphics card: DirectX 12 or later compatible with WDDM 2.0 driver.
- Display: high definition display (720p) of more than 9 ″ diagonally, with 8 bits per color channel.
- Internet connection: Windows 11 Home requires a Microsoft account and Internet connectivity.
How to update and download the ISO
As for the biannual updates of Windows 10, there are several methods to install Windows 11 on our computer. The most comfortable is to use Windows Update, since there we can check if our computer is compatible with Windows 11. Also, if it is compatible, but there is any problem with drivers or programs that create conflict, Microsoft will block the update until that driver or program is updated.
If it does not appear in Windows Update , but we want to try to update the operating system, we have two tools available. The first is the Windows 11 Update Assistant , which directly installs the operating system if we meet the requirements. It is equivalent to forcing the update through Update in the event that Windows Update does not detect the compatibility of our PC well.
The second tool is the Media Creation Tool , a Microsoft classic. With it we have the option of doing a manual installation from scratch. To do this, we can install the image on a pendrive, or download the ISO to run it manually on the computer if we want to put it in another format or if we already have an operating system installed on that computer, but it does not have Internet.
To download the ISO , Microsoft has finally come for reasons, and now they allow you to download it from the Internet through a link . Thus, we do not have to download any tools, and we can download the ISO even from Linux-based operating systems. You just have to click Download, choose the language, and we will have the link valid for 24 hours with the most up-to-date ISO. Ultimately, there is a lot of flexibility to install it.
The most important novelty of Windows 11 is its new interface . The operating system collects everything introduced in Windows 10X, with a new start menu that opens in the center of the screen, and the disappearance of the taskbar as we had conceived it until now. The icons and the start menu can be put to the left again, but the bar cannot be moved to the top of the screen or to the sides. Thus, the anchored apps and those that we have open appear in the center.
In the bar we also have the new system of notifications and quick actions , divided into two different menus. We also have the new Chat app integrated into the taskbar, making it easier and faster to share content with our contacts. To better organize the windows we have the new Snap Navigator function, which is displayed from the maximize button, and which allows us to reorganize what we have open in a more comfortable way.
The applications have also been completely redesigned, with a more modern design that is better integrated into the new interface. For example, we have a new file browser, as well as a Widgets panel with items like photos, to-dos, and news. We also have the new Microsoft Store , with Win32 and UWP programs , and even Android apps. No more having to resort to company websites to download programs.
At the level of internal functionalities we have a multitude of improvements. For example, we have native functions for games such as Auto HDR , which converts the entire image of the games into HDR; even in the ancients. We also have Direct Storage for games to load earlier if we have an NVMe SSD. Lastly, we have the latest version of DirectX 12 Ultimate . If we have a hybrid processor with high and low performance chips, we will also have FPS improvements . These chips will gradually reach the market.
Finally, it is important to note that Windows 11 will only have a major annual update as other systems such as Android, iOS or macOS do , and as Microsoft itself has been doing for a year. This will help avoid compatibility problems.
As we can see, there are many reasons to update to Windows 11 , but it is convenient to wait until the end of the year so that all the drivers compatible with our hardware are available.
