Windows 10, Windows 7, Edge and Internet Explorer Grow in September

The software does not stop growing and improving in an increasingly competitive and complete market, something in which Microsoft has a lot to say. And it is that this firm based in Redmond is one of the great pillars of the sector, with the Windows 10 operating system at the head.

But that is not all it offers us, since at the same time we find many other very important solutions in the day-to-day lives of millions of users. An example is the case of Office with its popular integrated programs, among others. But the truth is that the firm also has some somewhat outdated solutions that continue to be widely accepted.

Windows 10, Windows 7, Edge and Internet Explorer Grow in September

Windows 10 grows, but Windows 7 does not give up

If we focus on the aforementioned operating system, say that Windows 10 continues to grow month by month, but also but Windows 7 seems not to give up. And it is that according to the new published data, the most recent version of the desktop operating system has reached another record in September. With this, what we mean is that at the moment Windows 10 works on 61.26% of PCs according to NetMarketShare figures.

This is expected, especially if we take into account that Microsoft withdrew support for Windows 7 in January of this year. Thus, it is pushing for everyone to migrate to Windows 10 as soon as possible. But at the same time Windows 7 , a system launched in 2009 and which has already been abandoned, is still the second most used option. All this is achieved despite not receiving updates and with the obvious security risks that this entails.

In fact Windows 7 also managed to increase its market penetration last month. This happens when the logical thing would be a significant decrease, but no, since it goes from 22.31% of use in August to 22.77% in September. It is true that it is not a substantial growth, but it is equally surprising. This could translate into Windows 7 benefiting from the decline of another operating system such as Linux. For all these reasons, the Redmond company continues to remember the security risks of using this version of Windows.

Edge browser grows, but Internet Explorer is still there

A somewhat similar case can be found in what refers to the company’s web browsers. Let’s start from the base of Chrome is, by far, the number one browser in the world. However, the debut of the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge has made many migrate to this new alternative, as is being seen. This is not a risk for Chrome, at least for now, but Microsoft’s proposal is taking its market. Thus, the new browser continues to increase in use, something that has also been seen now.

To give us an idea of all this, Edge went from 8.52% to 8.84% penetration, while Chrome decreased from 70.89% to 69.94%. For its part, Firefox also registered a small growth with its market share increasing from 7.11% to 7.19%. However, most striking of all is that like Windows 7, Internet Explorer refuses to die. We say this because it has managed to increase its market share this past month.

In this way, the data shows that the mythical browser went from 3.79% to 3.88% in its use, which is somewhat striking. However, we must bear in mind that Internet Explorer is no longer taken into account by developers , since they do their tests in modern browsers. But be that as it may, perhaps for compatibility issues, there are still many who continue to use it, as has been seen.
