Every time something new comes to WhatsApp, there are many who flood social networks with questions or desperately seek information about it. Today is one of those days and, therefore, we are going to explain to you the reason why an icon with a 1 inside a circle has appeared when you are going to send photos or videos through the popular messaging application. Basically, it is the latest addition to this Facebook-owned app that, in Spanish, is known as Single View for photos and videos. We tell you more details after the jump.
Although WhatsApp is far behind other alternatives at the level of special functions, the truth is that it does not need to push too hard to keep its leadership. It is estimated that millions of people around the planet use it on a daily basis and it is already the preferred form of communication for many people of different generations. Now, copy a feature made famous by Snapchat and that passes by allowing us to send photos and videos that self-destruct when viewed.
Single View for Photos and Videos on WhatsApp
One of the problems with sending photos on WhatsApp, especially memes and things of little importance, is that we end up filling the reel of photos with junk content that takes up space without control. On many occasions, we send a meme with a joke that will only be funny the first time. At other times, we send private content that we do not want to be saved on the reel, such as a password or whatever we can think of. This also serves to teach things at the moment, such as the shoes that we are trying on and between which we do not decide.
From now on, we can send these photos or videos that will disappear when viewed once . This is what that mysterious icon with a 1 inside a circle that has appeared on your phone does. Of course, it is important that we have WhatsApp updated to the latest version so that it appears, and also so that we can receive this type of Single View messages.

Important things about Single View
WhatsApp explains some things to us about Single View, making it clear that we should only use it with trusted people since the function allows you to take screenshots without sending us a notification or you can take a photo on the screen with another device. Despite this, we must know that:
- Media files will not be saved in the recipient’s Photos or Gallery sections.
- Once you submit a single view photo or video, you won’t be able to see it again.
- You can’t forward, save, star, or share photos or videos that were sent or received with the single view option turned on.
- You can only see if the recipient opened a single view photo or video if the recipient has read receipts enabled.
- If you don’t open the photo or video within 14 days of when it was sent to you, the file will disappear from the chat.
- You must select the single view media file each time you want to send a single view photo or video.
- Single-view media files can be restored from a backup if the message was not opened at the time of backup. If the photo or video has already been opened, it will not be backed up and cannot be restored.
