For many years WhatsApp has been the most popular instant messaging application worldwide. Since its birth in 2009 , it is practically impossible to find someone who does not have it. However, other similar applications began to see the light and emerge as a competition. Even so, the only one that has been able to deal with it is Telegram , which was born in 2013 and little by little through the implementation of improvements Telegram has nothing to envy WhatsApp. In fact, Telegram has functions that WhatsApp does not have.
One of these features is group video calling. It is true that on both platforms you can make video calls, but now Telegram lets you make group video calls with up to 1000 viewers.
Video messages, video playback speed …
We can also share our screen with sound to the person with whom we are making a video call through Telegram, something impossible to do on WhatsApp. We can choose if we want to share our screen or what our camera sees, both the front and the back.
WhatsApp does not have the video messages either. This type of message is a way to send a quick video message without creating a video as such, saving space on our device. The operation of these video messages is very simple: just by touching, you can pause it and, if you want, you can move it forward or backward.
We will even be allowed to zoom in on this video message to be able to see any detail of the video with the highest possible quality.
With WhatsApp you can do this in a certain way, but by sending a video file which ends up taking up space on our Smartphone.
Another function is to change the video playback speed . While WhatsApp recently added the possibility to change the playback speed of an audio, in Telegram you can do the same but also in video, being able to choose the speed between x0.5, x1, x1.5 and x2. If your terminal is Android, you can even put a much slower option of a speed of x0.2.
WhatsApp has to work a lot
Telegram also has something that WhatsApp does not have: timestamps . With them, when sending a YouTube video with a certain minute (for example 1:27), clicking on the video link will take us directly to that moment. It is a function that has been in Telegram for two years.
In addition, in the Android versions , when sending both a text message and a sticker or an emoji, the message can become a kind of bubble that makes for a fairly fluid animation that is pleasant to see, unlike WhatsApp that only reflects the messages in the chat directly. IOS users already had this feature in a past update.
Being in a group in Telegram , now the profile photos of the different members will appear as we scroll on the screen, while in WhatsApp only the name with which we have saved each contact appears.
Finally, Telegram has animated emojis, while the closest thing WhatsApp can have to this are some stickers.
All these functions that Telegram offers and WhatsApp does not have make this a unique instant messaging application that at the moment has no rival, no matter how popular WhatsApp has. There may be many applications that after all serve the same purpose, but Telegram offers something that other applications cannot do right now.
Therefore, we will see if WhatsApp tries to implement these or similar functions in its application to continue growing. This competition causes both applications to want to create new functions from which we will benefit : the users.
