Transmission is one of the best known open source P2P download programs that we can find. This torrent client is characterized by being totally free and free of advertising, respecting privacy and, in addition, being very light, fast and having an interface that is as simple as possible. Without a doubt, one of the best alternatives to uTorrent. However, its developers have not updated this torrent client since 2018, giving the impression that it was abandoned, obsolete. Until today.
This weekend, those responsible for Transmission have announced the launch of a new version of the torrent download client, 3.0. This is the first major update to this program in the past two years , so it comes with new features and of course plenty of fixes and compatibility and performance improvements.
What’s New in Transmission 3.0
One of the novelties of this new version, much requested by the community, is improved support for IPv6 addresses , both for the RPC server and for the entire application in general. Verification for CURL requests are enabled by default in this new version. And, in addition, the torrent hash is used again as the name to resume a torrent, which will solve a lot of problems when saving files.
Other important changes that we can find in this new version of the program are:
- Limit the number of unsuccessful login attempts to 100 on the web server to prevent brute force attacks.
- Added the PeerID for other torrent clients, such as Xfplay, PicoTorrent, Free Download Manager, Folx and Baidu Netdisk.
- Support for TCP_FASTOPEN.
- Improvements in HiDPI screens.
- The handshake stops if the DH check fails.
- Improved support for using scripts when completing tasks. It now supports CMD and BAT on Windows.
- Upload system SSL (OpenSSL) certificates to Windows.
- It prevents its installation in Windows if UCRT is not installed.
- Label holder.
- Modernized program and interface icons.
- New keyboard shortcuts.
- Fixed a large number of memory leaks.
- Minor fixes and improvements.

Download the new version of the torrent client
The new Transmission 3.0 can now be downloaded completely free of charge for Windows, macOS and Linux. If we are using it in Linux, we can update to this new version by updating directly from the repositories with apt update && apt upgrade. In the case of Windows and macOS, we can download the new version of this program directly from its main website .
The torrent client does not have an internal update system, so in the case of Windows, we will have to download the new version and install it manually in the operating system. The configuration, yes, will be maintained, like all the downloads that we have in the program.
