How to Adjust Color Display on Android

Not all of us have the same ability to distinguish colors. Our needs or even likes for the configuration of the colors on the screen, can vary greatly from one person to another. Luckily, Android offers us several native tools to be able to adjust the colors of our mobile.

Adjust Color Display on Android

Our mobile displays millions of shades, which are defined by the configuration of the screen or by how the terminal interprets the information it receives from certain applications. For many years, Android has offered us various tools to adjust the color of our mobile.

Options to modify the color

The problem is that these special settings are not found in the display settings, where you would expect to find them. In order to access them we will have to enter the “accessibility” settings of our mobile. This is because these color adjustments are primarily intended for people with vision problems.

Color corrections

It is the first option that we find in accessibility. It is an option that allows us to play with color tones and is specially designed to compensate for color blindness. To activate the function we go to Settings / Accessibility / Color correction. Once activated, we can change the color mode choosing between three different options, depending on the type of vision problem that the user has.

  • Deuteronomy (red-green)
  • Protanomaly (red-green)
  • Tritanomaly (blue-yellow)

High contrast text

This option also allows you to modify the color of our mobile, since it changes the color of the text to black or white according to its original color, in order to be able to read it more easily. To activate the high contrast text function we will have to go to Settings / Accessibility and then check the “High contrast text” option. We are facing an option that says an eternal “experimental phase”, so it may not work correctly in all areas of our mobile.

Dark Mode and Invert Colors

Darkening the interface of the system is fashionable and also saves battery power. Next to this option is the one destined to “invert colors” that has been available natively on Android for the longest time. The main differences are that the dark mode option changes the interface colors, but does not affect multimedia content such as videos. This option can be activated from the screen options of those mobiles that support it, generally those based on Android 10.

For its part, the option to invert colors affects all mobile content including multimedia content. An example is in black texts that appear on a white screen , which will become white texts on a black screen. We can activate the inversion of colors in Settings / Accessibility / Invert colors.

Can they be used at the same time?

If we are on a mobile based on Android 10 and open an application that does not support the dark theme , we can activate the option to invert colors without having to deactivate the dark mode. However, if we have a mobile phone with Android 9 or earlier versions, we can only use one of these functions at a time. In other words, if we activate the Dark Mode, the Invert colors option will be automatically deactivated.
