TikTok is the leading short video platform that already has millions of people around the world. In fact, the app recently surpassed Facebook as the most downloaded . TikTok has thought of all its underage users and is going to implement a series of new measures to improve the safety and well -being of all those under 18 who have an account on the social network.
These new measures are in addition to those that were introduced recently, such as limiting private messages for all those under 16 years of age, among others.
New privacy settings
Automatically, the setting to receive direct messages for users between 16 and 17 years of age will be changed to “Nobody”, so they themselves will have to change the privacy and choose if they want to receive messages only from their friends or from anyone.
This will be for new accounts, but existing accounts will be asked to review their privacy settings each time they want to send a direct message. These functions are in addition to those under 16 who cannot send videos or images.
These changes will also affect all those who are between 13 and 15 years old and want to upload their first video to TikTok. To make it easier for users of this age to understand these new measures, when they upload their first video they will have to choose who they want to see it: their followers, their friends or just the person who uploads it.
From there, whenever these users upload a video, they can decide who they want to see them . In addition, the Duet and Paste functions are also disabled for everyone under 16 years of age.
The function that allows you to download the videos that are public has also been changed. Right now this feature cannot be used by everyone between the ages of 13 and 15.
But now, 16-17 year olds will be given a better understanding of how this works from within the app itself and they will decide who can download their videos.
A new window will open that will inform them of all this and thus they will have enough time to make the decision that best suits their wishes.
Push notifications will disappear at night
Finally, the last new feature that TikTok is going to implement to improve the safety of its young users has to do with push notifications . All those between 13 and 15 years old will stop receiving these types of notifications from 9 p.m. , while those between 16 and 17 years old will stop receiving them from 10 p.m.
According to TikTok, the application is working with parents, teenagers and different organizations to continue creating news in the application and increase the security, privacy and well-being of all its users. They have also ensured that their objective is to educate and create awareness in people who use digital environments.
That is why TikTok offers so many possibilities when it comes to adjusting the preferences of each user within the platform, since thus each one decides with whom and in what way they share the content that they upload to the platform.
