The TV goes dark by itself: what can I do to fix it?

When watching our favorite content on Smart TV, brightness is one of the most important parameters. However, there may be certain problems in this field that cause the TV to go dark by itself .

If the TV goes dark by itself, it could be due to several causes . Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the problem.

Smart TVs for very bright living rooms

Check the brightness settings

Your TV’s brightness setting may be incorrectly adjusted, which could cause the screen to dim. Look for the brightness settings option in your TV’s menu and adjust the value to see if this fixes the problem.

Modo Eco Smart TV

The process to follow depends on the brand and model, but in general you will have to access the Options, Settings or Configuration menu, choose Image and then select Expert settings. Finally, choose Brightness and adjust it by moving the slider to the desired setting, scrolling to the right or left as desired to make it brighter.

Check power saving settings

If your TV has a power saving option, make sure it is not turned on , as this can cause the screen to dim or turn off automatically after a period of time.

The energy-saving features of your Smart TV can help reduce power consumption and reduce eyestrain when watching TV in a dark room. Some TVs have a light sensor, so the picture will become brighter or dimmer depending on the lighting conditions in the room. Turning off automatic brightness control may make the image brighter.

Anti-eyestrain mode?

We mentioned it in passing in the previous point, but it deserves its own. Some Smart TV models have brightness settings that are not fixed, but instead depend on environmental conditions. There are modes to avoid eyestrain that reduce blue light and the general feeling is blackout.

Sometimes having the “EyeComfort mode” activated (it is called that by Samsung, LG or Philips, but it may vary in other brands) can be the cause of those screen darkenings for which we cannot find an explanation. EyeComfort mode is a display option in the Adaptive Picture feature that provides comfortable picture settings for viewers’ eyes based on sunrise/sunset times and surrounding ambient light. The sunrise/sunset time synchronization function in EyeComfort mode may work differently depending on the area and network connection.

To disable it, follow these steps

  1. Press the Home button on your remote, and then select Menu.
  2. Scroll to Picture Mode and press the Select button to change the Picture Mode.
  3. Changes the Picture Mode from EyeComfort Mode to Optimized.

Firmware updates

If you have problems with your Smart TV, you should always check if there are software updates available , as they may contain a solution for your problem and that a subsequent update may have corrected any of these errors.

If your Smart TV is connected to the network, it should apply these updates automatically, but it is not always foolproof and sometimes you will have to do a manual process. Check the manufacturer’s website to see if an update is available and follow the instructions to download and install the firmware .

It may be a technical problem

At the hardware level, make sure the TV is properly connected to a stable and reliable power source. An unstable power supply can cause screen problems.

Técnico TV

If none of these solutions work, it may be necessary to call a technician to check your TV . There may be a hardware problem or a faulty component that is causing the problem.
