The PlayStation 5 has been with us for almost two years now. Its stock problems are still the order of the day, but Sony has continued to work from day one to solve some of the problems that have accompanied the new generation console since its launch. The PlayStation 5 has been heavily criticized for its sheer size and the heat it generates. A few months ago, the Japanese company released the PS5 Chassis B, an identical console on the outside, but which significantly improved its dissipation system. Now, the company has improved its chip, and that’s great news.
What matters is inside

Visually speaking, the PlayStation 5 is still the PlayStation 5 from the day it was released. However, its interior has undergone enough changes to ask us if the famous paradox of Theseus applies here.
The PlayStation 5 – the one that has risen 50 euros recently – debuts a new chip . Until now, Sony’s console used an AMD APU called Oberon. The silicon used TSMC’s 7-nanometer lithographic process. Now the chip has been replaced by a chip called the Oberon Plus . Its power-level performance is identical, but it is now produced using TSMC’s 6-nanometer photolithographic process.
Less consumption. Less heat. same potency

That a manufacturer manages to reduce the size of a chip is always great news. In the world of semiconductors, it is always sought to reduce the size of nano transistors as much as possible. The new AMD Oberon Plus is identical to the original Oberon. However, being made using a 6-nanometer process, the same number of transistors can now fit in less space .
We will go from the 300 square millimeters of the original chip to about 260. By reducing the surface, the dissipation system could also be simplified a little more. The same happens with the power system, since the same chip with smaller dimensions consumes less energy.
The Slim must be close

Although there is no confirmation from Sony, the internal advances invite us to think that the Slim model of this console could already be in development . During these two years, Sony has worked hard to make the PlayStation 5 heatsink as efficient as possible and reduce the size of its console.
For now, the console with a 6-nanometer chip will be sold with the same casing that we have seen so far, only that its model identifier will be the CFI-1202 . Keep it in mind this Christmas if you are going to get the console, because it will definitely be much more interesting to acquire this new model.
Sony is also guaranteed lower costs
All these small changes that the PlayStation 5 is experiencing are also important for profitability . Reducing the weight and the amount of materials used in the manufacture of the console also affects the final cost. After the scare we had a week ago with the price increase, it is possible that Sony has finally managed to make its console profitable. Or, at least, this new model will allow the Japanese not to announce a new rise in the next year.
