Send Bizum by WhatsApp: how to do it with BBVA Cashup

WhatsApp has been working for years on a system that allows you to send money between users of the application. WhatsApp Pay is available in countries like Brazil or India, but not yet. However, what has been available for a while is the possibility of sending money from your mobile through the app using Bizum with a Spanish bank.

We are talking about BBVA . While WhatsApp continues to work to offer payments, it is currently possible to integrate Bizum into messaging applications if you are a BBVA customer and use BBVA Cashup . This feature has been available since 2017 , but it is not well known among users.

BBVA Cashup: send money through Bizum on WhatsApp

This payment system works on iOS and Android , and it is very easy to use. To do this, we have to install the BBVA Cashup application. Within it, we go to the Bizum section, where we will have to be registered in the service to use it. Upon entering, an option appears at the bottom that says «Do you want to send money while you chat? Find out here.

By giving it, we will be given the option to activate BBVA Cashup on the keyboard from Settings. In this way, the application to send money is integrated as if it were a native keyboard. Once activated, you can go to WhatsApp , Telegram, or the messaging app where you are using the keyboard, and give the person you want to send the money to. There we will select the amount, and we will validate the operation with the BBVA access codes.

Once we have paid, we will have to select the normal mobile keyboard again to be able to write again. The person who receives the money will also receive a message in the messaging application detailing the money transfer and the amount. The recipient, of course, must have Bizum activated in order to receive the money.

It has been available for 4 years: other banks do not copy it

This system is somewhat cumbersome for a first configuration, but later it allows to send money more comfortably to our messaging contacts, although it does not imply a great saving of steps compared to using the application of our bank. Despite having been available for almost 4 years, this “trick” is only available from BBVA in Spain, and no other bank has dared to implement it.

Payment through messaging apps is the next step to integrate this type of utility in our day to day. China is where this type of payment is most widespread with applications such as WeChat, either to send money between individuals or to make payments in physical stores.
