On October 15, 1990, The Secret of Monkey Island was published, a graphic adventure designed by Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman. Published by Lucasfilm Games it marked a whole genre and that is why now, thirty years later, they launch a new collector’s edition that even comes with a 3.5 floppy disk and all the games in the saga. The Secret of Monkey Island is one of those games that everyone should have played or at least known about. Because although it is true that initially it did not have great success, over time the impact of it has been very important. Furthermore, we could say that it was an inspiration for many other games that came later. Especially of all those who shared that graphic adventure format, where with the mouse you touch the different elements of the screen until you find the way to continue.
Well, now, thirty years after Ron Gilbert, a game designer, came up with the idea of creating a pirate adventure game in graphic adventure format, they are releasing a collector’s edition of The Secret of Monkey Island. A box made up of different types of objects and the games of the saga that will make many want one yes or yes.
What exactly does this new collector’s edition offer? Let’s see it. To begin, Limited Run Games is the company responsible for creating an edition designed for the most fans of the mythical saga. Hence, it includes the five available titles, including the version made by Telltale: Tales of Moneky Island.
Of course, offering only the games is not something attractive to the fan, no matter how unconditional. So something that is already traditional in this type of edition is also included, a book where a little more behind the camera is told . For example, that Ron Gilbert presented the idea to Lucasfilm Games in 1988, but it was not until 1989 when he was able to begin to develop it, because before he was commissioned to finish the graphic adventure of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
It also includes a picture of the game, a set of pins with the character in its different variations suffered over time and conditioned by improvements at a graphic level (from a pixelated side view to more detailed ones), a poster, a certificate of authenticity , a Big Whoop ticket, a figure of the protagonist and the 3.5 Disk, plus a painting with a screenshot of the game.

For example, you can do it on a Raspberry Pi and use ScummVM. Although the best option is to resort to the PC versions. One of them can be found on Steam and it is a special edition that maintains the same magic, but adds a plus with higher quality graphics.
This same improved version is also available for other platforms such as the PlayStation 4 , Xbox One. And on mobile devices it was available, but its developers decided to remove it from the iPhone and iPad.
