Reverse Charging on iPhone 12: Evidence of Its Presence

One of the strongest rumors that haunted the iPhone 11 a year ago was the possibility of including reverse charging. In this way, the iPhone could act as a charging base to recharge other devices simply by resting them on the back. This functionality has returned to the table after different discoveries that have been made in the new iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 would hide an unannounced surprise

As Jeremy Horwitz from VentureBeat has reported, using the FCC as a source, the iPhone 12 includes a fully functional reverse wireless charging feature but is disabled through the operating system. Details regarding this feature are shown in the FCC documentation. Specifically, it is explained that the iPhone 12 works with Qi chargers but also includes a 360 KHz charging function to recharge accessories.

If we go back to the presentation of these new iPhone a few weeks ago, no reference was made to this charging system. What if it was presented was the rescue of the MagSafe function and now Mark Gurman has wanted to tie all these ends with different speculations. Through a tweet he has come to affirm that from the Cupertino company they could be preparing new AirPods that can be recharged through MagSafe simply by putting them on the back of the iPhone. This question that Mark Gurman has thrown can be complemented with the information that was poured last week about the possible launch of new AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2.

MagSafe iPhone

For Apple it would make a lot of sense not to have said anything about this new charging system today. They could be waiting for the launch of compatible headphones to give birth to the new feature with which they have the new iPhones. This can be very useful since at any time you can charge the headphones simply by putting them on the back of any iPhone. This way it will be difficult for you to run out of battery in your headphones.

The problem that will exist when this new feature is announced will undoubtedly be poor compatibility. Any user could have hoped that another mobile phone or any accessory compatible with the Qi charging standard could be recharged in this comfortable way. The problem is that the load will have to be closely linked to MagSafe technology requiring a perfect fit with the coils. This obviously requires an extra aside from the Qi standard, but surely in the future many of the accessories launched by the company will be compatible with this feature, and it is possible that third-party manufacturers may also adopt this type of recharging system.
