Redmi Note 9S vs Redmi Note 8 Pro: Comparison and Differences

It is not the first time that we say that choosing a mid-range mobile is not an easy task. Within the same brand, there are terminals that compete with each other for price and whose technical differences are often minimal on many occasions. Xiaomi is an example of this, since the arrival of the new Redmi Note 9S, adds the consolidated presence of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Today we wanted to compare both terminals to see their differences and advantages of one over the other.

Both terminals have a generous screen, reaching 6.67 inches on the Redmi Note 9S, while it remains at 6.55 inches on the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Both reach a FullHD + resolution, but there is an important aesthetic difference in this panel. While the Redmi Note 9S sports a hole in its screen, the Redmi Note 8 Pro features a teardrop notch. The purpose of both is to house the front camera, as we will see later.

Weight and measurements

It is curious to see how they both have the same thickness of 8.8 millimeters , however the Redmi Note 8 Pro is lighter with its 199 grams, compared to the 209 grams of the Redmi Note 9S. The difference seems to be clear, since the battery of the Redmi Note 9S is much larger, as we will see later.

Different brains

When we raise the hood we find two different bets but they pursue the same goal. On the part of the new Redmi Note 9S we find the Snapdragon 720G, while the Redmi Note 8 Pro integrates the Helio G90T from MediaTek. This processor has brought about the resurgence of Taiwanese semi-conductor firmware , which is now present in many mid-range terminals with that gaming air that prevails in the industry. In AnTuTu performance tests, the MediaTek chip has offered slightly higher results, but both are very close in terms of power.

The Redmi Note 9S offers versions of 4 and 6 GB of RAM, while the Redmi Note 8 Pro starts from 6 GB of RAM and goes up to 8 GB. Similarly, both have 64 and 128 GB of storage, which can be expanded using microSD cards up to 512GB.

Four cameras

At the rear of both terminals we find four cameras. The Redmi Note 9S features a 48-megapixel main sensor, accompanied by an 8-megapixel wide angle and 2 and 5-megapixel depth and macro sensors respectively. However, the Redmi Note 8 Pro boasts a 64-megapixel sensor, which is accompanied by an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor, macro and depth sensors of 2 megapixels each. In the front hole of the Redmi Note 9S we find a 16 megapixel sensor, while in the Redmi Note 8 Pro and embedded in a notch, a 20 megapixel sensor.

Battery and Android 10

The two terminals have the necessary wireless connections, including NFC, Bluetooth 5 and a fingerprint sensor . The Redmi Note 9S features MIUI 10 based on Android while the Redmi Note 8 Pro came with Android 9 Pie and has already started to update to Android 10.

When we take a look at the prices, we see that the new Redmi Note 9S can be obtained for 229 euros, while the Redmi Note 8 Pro is currently at 204 euros . However, the Note 8 Pro is the variant with 6 GB of RAM, while the Note 9S is left with 4 GB of RAM, perhaps somewhat scarce to face years to come. We see that the Note 8 Pro’s camera is also superior, but the Note 9S’s battery is a very juicy incentive.
