The programs are kept updated, to avoid security problems, data loss or malware intrusion into them, so periodically or when necessary programs such as Word, or the Office package in this case, launch security updates or patches to fix it. Some of them affect performance or impair it in a certain way.
We may have problems to open Word or to start correctly due to updates that affect its performance, this issue is controlled since they usually take a new update that prevents this from happening, but in a patch the main thing is to solve the security hole and hence certain problems that are solved in the future. Of course, we can always use the free version of Word online, valid for the emergency, as is the case.
How to update Microsoft Office
Word is updated automatically since they launched the 2013 Office package so you do not decide if you want it to be updated or not, as long as you have not been previously instructed not to, but these updates are good for proper operation. since they also solve problems from previous updates. We will update Word and check if the problem has been resolved:
In case Word starts, and we can access the panel we will enter: File
Once inside we will go to: Account> Update now.
In case you want to avoid new updates, to check them before updating and avoid errors they also give us the option there, although it is not highly recommended if we will not be aware of them, for security reasons it is better to keep all the software updated.
Once we click on it, it will start looking for updates and the most recent one will be downloaded, we will wait for it to finish.
Start Word as the first day
Another option we have, and we can use it to check where the error comes from if it is not an update, is to start Word in the state of the first day, that is, not to start any add-on or template that could be compromising Word startup status.
To do this we will follow these steps: Windows + R> (Write) winword / a
If Word starts correctly, and remember to have installed some additional add-on or template, to which it brings by default, uninstall it or delete it and check again to open it from the shortcut as we normally do.
Repair the Microsoft Office Office Package
Another option that we have in case Word (or any program in the package) does not open us or even if we have a different problem, is to repair the complete office package, and for this we will follow the next steps. We will go to Control Panel> Programs> Uninstall a program. Once inside, we will look for Microsoft, and the office package will appear, in which we will right click> Change.
Once this is done, a new window will appear with several options for Quick Repair or Online Repair.
We will choose the one that is most convenient for us, but if you have an Internet connection or an acceptable speed, it is better to choose and as a recommendation our online repair. Then a new window will appear where repair will appear, and we will continue. With what will follow the repair process. Once finished, we will verify that the problem has been satisfactorily resolved, otherwise continue with the other solutions.
Restore Word Normal.dot template
As a last option, we can restore the Normal.dot template, which contains the settings made by the user, and that will be deleted later, with this we also include that macros, scripts and others will be deleted.
Basically almost any customization we have done to Word, but with that we will solve any problem that is affecting us in Word, since it will be restored as if we had just installed it.
To do this we will follow the following steps: Windows + R> We write: cmd
A console will open, in which we will have to type the following command:
