The order of all the Star Wars movies and series with Episode IX

With the arrival of Episode 9 of Star Wars , a very important cycle closes within its own cinematic universe. And surely that made you ask yourself a basic question: how is the order of Star Wars movies (and series) after the premiere of The Rise of Skywalker ? Well, we have the answer.

Chronological order of the Star Wars movies (and series)

Star Wars: Episode IX – Skywalker’s Ascent is not just any movie. Criticisms aside – that if you have taken a look out there you will have seen that they are not exactly the best -, the importance of this film is that it closes an entire era that began several decades ago.

The first film in this series was called Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and premiered in theaters in 1977 . With it a whole revolution began in the cinema, an authentic popular phenomenon that still has repercussions today – in fact, over time the popularity of the saga has not stopped growing.

Such was the success that George Lucas, its director, did not hesitate to give it continuity, counting of course with the main trio: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. The four embarked on two more tapes that would make up the first trilogy : Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.

After it came the second batch, a decade later, with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (in 1999); Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), which focused on price events to the first trilogy.

Star WArs: The Rise of Skywalker

After the purchase of Lucasfilm by Disney, it was decided to make a third and final trilogy that were released in 2015, 2017 and now in 2019 ( Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens , Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker , respectively), thus ending an entire era.

However, among films we have also had other official incorporations to take into account (and that add extra information to the saga) such as the “Star Wars Stories”, The Mandalorian series or the animated deliveries of The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Put this way, the chronological order of the films (that is, the correct order to follow them in the Star Wars timeline) is as follows:

  1. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace
  2. Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
  3. Star Wars The Clone Wars
  4. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
  5. Solo: A Star Wars Story
  6. Star Wars Rebels
  7. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
  8. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
  9. Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back
  10. Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi
  11. The Mandalorian
  12. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens
  13. Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi
  14. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker
