Only One Browser is Connected to the Internet: How to Fix This Problem

The browser is a fundamental piece to navigate the Internet. We have at our disposal a wide range of possibilities for mobile devices and computers. Some may even be faster, more secure, or bring better features. The problem is that sometimes they don’t work properly. We can even run into the error that only one browser works and the rest do not.

Only one internet browser works

This is a problem that many users report. The normal thing is that it happens only in a specific browser, that it does not work for some reason. However, sometimes this can be extended much more to the point that only one works for us and the rest nothing.

browsers

We have many browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Edge, Opera … Many users use several for their day to day, since some have certain extensions that in other cases are not so optimized or do not exist directly.

Sometimes when trying to navigate we find that the web pages do not load , it works very slowly or it does not start as it should. When testing with another browser we see that it does work correctly and everything works normally. Why is this happening?

This problem can be related to failures at the software level, but also with our connection. Normally we can solve it in a simple and fast way. Let’s see what are the most common causes and what to do to make browsers work well.

Why only one browser works

Let’s say we have Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera installed. We started to have problems in the first two and we see that only the Internet works in Opera. It could be due to various causes, as we will see.

The system needs to reboot

Maybe there is some problem at the operating system level . This is very common after an update, in which a reboot is required for everything to work properly. It could hinder the proper functioning of certain programs up to that point.

Therefore, one of the first steps we must take is to restart the computer . It is the simplest and fastest. We simply turn off and on again and thus we will check if there may be any changes and all browsers begin to work normally.

Conflict with the VPN or proxy

Having a VPN installed is very common today. They allow us to encrypt our connection, thus improve security when we connect to the network. Something similar happens with a proxy server, which acts as an intermediary between the client (our team) and the destination server.

The point is that these tools could also interfere with the proper functioning of certain programs. They could block the browser and not work, hence some of us cannot use them. Therefore, if we are using this type of tool, we could try to pause it momentarily and see if the error is solved.

Malware on the system

Without a doubt, one of the most common causes behind problems with the functioning of the browser is malware . It can be a virus that affects the operating system, but also some type of malicious software that specifically affects the browser.

This can happen after you have downloaded a malicious file or installed an application that turns out to be malware. It could be blocking Internet access for certain applications, among which we can name browsers.

DNS is causing problems

As we know, we can use different DNS servers . We can use those that come with the Internet operator itself, but also many other audiences such as Google or CloudFlare. Some might even improve privacy and security when browsing.

However, we could be using a DNS that has problems. They may not allow us to use browsers normally. We can easily change it in Windows. To do this we have to go to Start, open Settings, Network and Internet, Change adapter options, select the one that interests us and then right-click and click Properties. There we mark Internet Protocol version 4, Properties and there will appear the option to change the DNS that we are using.

The firewall blocks the connection

Another tool that could be blocking browsers is the firewall . As we know, this type of program allows us to block certain connections and thus prevent unwanted access by intruders. There are many types and for all operating systems.

But it could also be blocking legitimate apps. One of them is the browser. It could be preventing you from connecting to the Internet normally. Therefore, we can try to temporarily disable the firewall and see if the problem is solved or configure it so that it does not block this type of program.

Some extension causes problems

Another problem, although in this case it could affect a specific browser more, is the fact that it has an extension that is causing a problem. As we know, plugins for browsers are very widespread. We have a wide range of possibilities.

Sometimes these extensions can be a problem that slows down the browser or can even cause it to malfunction and lose connectivity. Hence, we must always control very well which ones we are going to install.

In short, these are some options that we can take into account if only one browser works for us . We can solve problems that are affecting the connection and damaging the proper functioning when accessing the network.
