Converting cartoons to live action has been an unstoppable trend in recent years. Netflix announced as early as 2017 that One Piece would move from anime to live action on its platform . Three years passed, and after a huge silence, the Los Gatos company confirmed in 2020 that they would get down to work. The development of this new and promising television series began last February, and Netflix has let us see a few details of what this future production will be like .

What would Eiichirō Oda think if in 1997, someone had told him that his manga would become a reference work? Would the Japanese illustrator have ever imagined that he would draw 102 volumes of One Piece ? Or that more than a thousand episodes of the anime would be released and that in 2022, it would still be without an end? What we are clear about is that One Piece has already conquered many different generations, and, just as Toei Animation saw its potential in 1999 by producing the Luffy, Nami and company anime series, Netflix also seems to have reached the same conclusion. , and they are working on adapting the series with flesh and blood actors – in a summarized way, we suppose.
The streaming platform has shared a video about how the filming of the One Piece live action is going at its Netflix Geeked Week event, held this past weekend. The video barely lasts a couple of minutes, but we have already been able to see some very interesting details.
In the video we can see Iñaki Godoy , the actor who will play Luffy, and who has been selected by Eiichirō Oda himself, who is also the executive producer of the series. Soon after, we’re shown concept art for several ships we’ll see in the first season: the Baratie , which is where Sanji works, the Miss Love Duck , and the Going Merry.
After the 3D designs, a very fast timelapse is shown in which we can see how they have made the models that will be used in the shoot. A truly spectacular piece of work that shows that all fiction can come true if it has a sufficient budget and the right team. The creators themselves have even been surprised by the build quality of the Baratie.
The actors who will play the characters have also been announced.
In the event, Netflix has also published the rest of the actors who will be part of the cast of the series . Until now, we already knew the main cast. Along with Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd will play the role of Nami. Mackenyu Maeda will play the role of Roronoa Zoro. Sajji will be played by Taz Skylar, and the role of Usopp will be played by Jacob Romero.
