Opting for full-size sensor cameras was, until recently, something that few users thought about. The price of these cameras compared to others with an APS-C sensor was notably higher, but proposals such as the new Nikon Z5 show that the future seems to be Full Frame and for everyone . This is the manufacturer’s new camera.
Nikon Z5, a very cheap full frame

Nikon has made official its new Nikon Z5 , an interesting camera for several reasons and where not only its Full Frame sensor stands out, but also its price. This new proposal costs $ 1,399, which would imply that if the change is more or less maintained, upon arrival in Spain it should be around 1,300 or 1,400 euros. So it is positioned as a camera for virtually any user who is interested in the benefits of this type of sensor.
Anyway, let’s leave the price aside and talk about its technical characteristics. Nikon’s new Z5 comes in a compact design, made possible by leaving the traditional DSLR system behind and switching to mirrorless.
As you can see in the images, the camera is not only small, it is also well stocked with buttons, with some programmable ones so you can configure them according to your needs.
For the rest, the 3.2-inch screen stands out, although here it is not for good. This screen can be tilted upwards, in the style of Sony cameras and that is not so comfortable. Each brand will have its reasons for betting on this type of screen, but the truth is that, given its choice, a fully folding screen is ideal for a multitude of reasons.
Moving on to its capabilities, the Nikon Z5 integrates a full-size , 24-megapixel CMOS sensor . That is, it is a Full Frame, so it will have all the advantages that this type of sensors offer compared to the popular APS-C, Micro four thirds and the 1-inch ones used in advanced compacts.

To improve performance, the camera includes 5-axis stabilization on the body. A system that together with the focusing system that it shares with the rest of the Z family can be very interesting also for video. Of course, when recording video we do have a limitation that would logically partly justify its price: there is a 1.7x cut and the video at maximum 4K resolution only reaches 30 fps.
Despite this, the Nikon Z5 is postulated as an interesting alternative for those who are looking for a Full Frame camera and have Nikon lenses. Because even using a different system, there are adapters to reuse the objectives you may already have without losing benefits.
Nikon Z5, price and availability
The new Nikon Z5 will be on sale from the month of August in the vast majority of distributors at a price that, as we indicated at the beginning, will be around 1,300 or 1.40o euros the body only . If you want to opt for the kit that includes a 24-50 F4-6.3 lens or a 24-200 F4-6.3 you will have to pay about 1,500 or 1,900 euros approximately.
If you compare the prices with the recent Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 you will see that the difference is important. Logically they are different ranges, especially compared to the EOS R5 which aims to be a benchmark in photo and video subjects, but that does not mean that it is not an interesting bet that comes to further animate a market that is more awake than ever. Or that is, at least, our impression after the latest releases.
