New Emojis Much Faster, the Biggest Change Android 12

Each new version of Android or iOS is usually accompanied by a new batch of emojis, but that does not depend exclusively on the operating systems, but also on the Unicode consortium , in charge of approving and rejecting the new graphic characters that are added to the catalog.

When new versions of emoji are released , it should be Apple and Google who work on their implementation in the next major updates to the operating system for their devices. And it seems that Google is already working on adapting these emojis for its future software, Android 12 .

No waiting months for the new emoji

It has been the guys from XDA who have come across a Google strategy whose objective is to shorten the deadlines from when these emojis are published in the Unicode project until they are adapted to Android . This Android Open Source Project (ASOP) suggests that starting with Android 12, Google is going to update its emoji catalog much faster.

In this way, instead of having to wait to receive the new emoji with each operating system update, we should not wait that long and partial updates could be released that incorporate these characters to our messaging and social media apps. Google just wants to handle them separately. Thus, every time Unicode releases new packages, Google could push this new update to phones that run its mobile operating system much faster.

Have to wait

This is the good news. The bad news is that at the moment we are only talking about a project designed to be incorporated into the next Android and the version that precedes this software, Android 11, has not yet reached 2% of the devices on the market. This future version of Google’s operating system is scheduled to be available in the summer of 2021, when the company unveils it at its developer event. We will still have to wait a few more months to see the new emoji update system and learn more about how it works.

At the moment this would be one of the first peculiarities of the future version of Android 12 of which not much is known yet. In recent weeks Google has speculated with the arrival of new tools such as the possibility of taking extended screenshots natively or a better integration with third-party launchers but, as of today, we cannot confirm any of these future Android news .
